The most maddening thing is that it would be perfectly fine to write "9News reporter shot by police" because it is it accurate, true and backed up by the video footage.

Even *if* the cops want to claim it was accidental, to word "shoot" says nothing about intent.

We're using passive voice to lie.

Electricity use in the United States is about three times higher than in the UK, so ChatGPT prompts are an even smaller piece of the pie. Ten searches per day would come to 0.09% of per capita electricity generation, while 100 searches would be 0.9%.

Unless you’re an extreme power user, asking AI questions every day is still a rounding error on your total electricity footprint.

The "3 Wh per ChatGPT query" estimate is back and haunting my social media feeds! 🧟‍♀️

First of all -- that number is a back of the envelope calculation 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗯𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. We don't know much about the model underpinning ChatGPT, how big it is, what hardware it's running on, nor how much energy it's using. 💡

Second -- even if it is true, or close to being true, the 𝗰𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲. We are switching out technologies that worked well for decades to new, shiny ones that use orders of magnitude more energy, and that comes with a cost. It's not just a matter of asking ChatGPT a question or 2, but also using genAI for searching the web, drafting emails, and generating images and video.🔌

So please don't listen to people who are loudly proclaiming that this "isn't an issue". We don't know the answer to that question -- and actually, there is no single answer to that question, since every gram of CO2 and Wh of energy matters in the fight against climate change. 🌎

What we need is:
- More 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 about the energy and GHG emissions of all in production AI models, right now. 🔎
- More 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 and legislation to incentivize tech companies to choose more efficient models and truly renewable energy sources 🌱
- More 𝗯𝘂𝘆-𝗶𝗻 from the AI community (as opposed to this truly c…

I think her issue was that it wasn’t credited - she always credits when she uses other people’s recipes and often tweaks them, adds her tips/substitution options etc. Whereas this appears to have just been fed into ChatGPT to slightly reword & printed as if it’s completely original
