From the December 25, 1937, installment of The Phantom by Lee Falk & Ray Moore. (Although it was not originally printed in color.)

In these two panels, the Phantom is dressed as Santa Claus. In the first, his dog, Devil, pulls off his face mask, revealing that he is still wearing his Phantom mask underneath. A young boy asks if he is Santa Claus, and the Phantom responds “no - just pinch-hitting for him. Merry Christmas!”
