This all occured under an approved budget by Congress. Congress did not approve a budget for suitable furniture at the end of the renovation. A decade later, Jackie Kennedy succeeded with furniture and decor.

Correction: Bunker was built in 1942 due to WWII.The White House Reconstruction, aka the Truman Reconstruction, was a comprehensive dismantling/rebuilding of the interior from 1949 to 1952. In 1948, after nearly 150 years of wartime destruction, rebuilding, hurried renovatand inadequate foundations.

The Social Security Administration announced the increase for 2026, delayed by the government shutdown. Congress enacted a law in 1972 to provide for a COLA increase based on inflation. Other than doing the math based on indicators, as measured by the fed government, it's automatic. It's 2.8%.
