I feel like democrat funder email lists are like copies of albums on tape back in the 80s and 90s - gradually the quality gets fuzzier as copies of copies of copies are made, until it ends up that I get addressed, from some random person running in North Dakota, as “Dear Mr Robert Mikklehorn”

The error message on SunOS/Solaris (I think) for failing reading an NFS share was "NFS server [name] not responding", and way back in the day (pre 2000) I came across a place that called their NFS servers after adverbs. E.g. "stubbornly" . Of course some clever person called one "probably" too. Fun.

OK, that was going to be my guess. :) I think it's down to ~ US$2 / month now for a very small ARM function, but yeah it's still annoying that there's a non trivial cost.

If you’re able and happy to share, I’d genuinely be interested to know why (and why not the alternatives). I can definitely imagine some use cases but they are pretty specific.

I can totally see that. It would be the same if it was their version of the Doctor Who theme there. Out There Somewhere just ends things so well.

I was very confused until I just learned that, after I bought it, they tacked on The Saint to the end of In Sides. Ewwww! Nope, that's not how it ends in my brain, and I've still got the (original) CD to prove it. :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Sides

I use AWS a ton but Lambda still astounds me. Throw some code in a function, send 1m requests as fast as you can.

It ate up all available file descriptors on my little t3 box and still ran 18k RPS with a p99 of 0.3479s. Not many services can go from 0 to 18k RPS instantaneously with this p99.

For some people early September means back to school, or fantasy football season. For Sara and I it’s … START OF 2025 / 26 THEATRE SEASON!

We started tonight with “Art” on Broadway, a revival of a French play which was a big hit in the UK and US in the 90s.

It was .. OK. A bit dated.

UUID V7. I can't remember why, but I suspect because it was good enough for what I needed, and was more familiar to me because I already used the uuid library in Node.
