Ginger Baker - Horses and Trees
⭐️⭐️

Baker considered himself a jazz drummer, but is this fusion of African percussion/strings with rock really “jazz”. Not bad, but not something I come back to much. Needs more melody and focus.

Favorite: “Dust to Dust”
Least favorite: “Satou”
I was at a trombone recital with my son. I noted out that Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” was on the program. He didn’t recognize the title, so I sang him a few bars. He stared at me blankly.

“You don’t recognize it?” I said.

He replied, “No… but you’re probably just singing it badly.”
This is part of the reason I stopped seeing sales reps after the rest of the office decided to let them back in after COVID
I feel like everyone in their 20s doing sales does the same training modules or something.
My biggest gripe about this record is that frequently they don’t bother stating the head very strongly, so it really helps to be familiar with the tunes ahead of time.
Chet Atkins & Les Paul - Chester & Lester
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mostly good background music, but too often interrupted with silly, loosey-goosey banter. Now and then their absolute instrumental MASTERY and technical proficiency shine through.

Favorites: “Caravan”
“Avalon”

Least favorite: “It’s Been a Long Time”

For now, all news outlets should refer to “the White House” as “two-thirds of the White House.”

As in: “Today, two-thirds of the White House announced new sanctions on Iran for violating nuclear agreements…”

Finally listening to this playlist. I’m struck by how much metal and prog rock seem to be branches of the same tree. Or how prog morphed into metal over time.
That’s the last of my Louis Armstrong CDs. Tomorrow: on to someone new!
Louis Armstrong in Concert: What a Wonderful World
⭐️⭐️⭐️

A hodgepodge of sources. Some tracks are club dates from the late 40s with Jack Teagarden. Some are big auditorium shows with mid-50s personnel. Title track was from the late 60s!

Favorite: “Someday”

Many people are saying this is a big improvement
Now all they need is a “Harris/Walz 2024” bumpersticker on their Elonmobile
If you ever have a chance to go see Kingfish play live, I highly HIGHLY recommend it.
I’m a little nervous to try this one. One of the worst records in my collection is called “Jazz Dylan”—jazz versions of Bob Dylan songs.
I had never seen that before today. Wow.
The Louis Armstrong Gold Collection
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good collection, but spotty sound quality (some tracks are from a 1938 big band). No liner notes, no track sources, “Made in Italy”… it might be a bootleg.

Favorite: “Muskrat Ramble”
“indiana”

Least favorite: “Jeepers Creepers”
I can’t recall yesterday’s word, but I think I got it in two?
Wait… TODAY’S Wordle answer is your usual starting word? That seems like an odd choice.
The Essence of Louis Armstrong
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A very good compilation CD. Heavy on the trad jazz, light on the treacly crooning.

Favorite: “Back o’ Town Blues”
“Six Foot Four”
“All of Me”

Least favorite: “Cabaret” - the strings feel out of place on this AllStars compilation
Dumping on Americans at a “No Kings” rally WHILE WEARING A CROWN.
@nytimes.com @washingtonpost.com @cnn.com are you going to write about the president of the United States posting a clip of himself literally dumping shit on Americans, or is it nbd?
I had read there were also events in Arlington and Burleson. Perhaps others?
Hercule always called them “mustaches,” though
Yeah, if you check all of these new Trump regime accounts, EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM is leading off with nonsense about the “Democrat shutdown.” They are nothing but propaganda. Block, mute, ignore, etc.
people who earnestly try to argue that blocking certain accounts deprives u of important opposing viewpoints are assuming these certain accounts are posting in good faith
which is a dangerous assumption tbh
Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World (1968)
⭐️⭐️

Extremely meh.

Favorite: “Cabaret”
“There Must Be a Way”

Least favorite: “The Sunshine of Love” - strings, harpsichord, choir… ugh!
