no, please don't use ChatGPT to tell you which comics to invest in

and please don't ask ME that

I will advocate for Sergio's work and mustache 'til the end of time
mikester.bsky.social
Customer: "I'm looking for comics by Sergio...Argones? Agrones? Have you heard of him?"

Me [leaping over counter]: "SERGIO ARAGONES, YES, THIS WAY TO THE ARAGONES WING OF MY SHOP, SIR"
mikester.bsky.social
They are very much the Not for Me Comics, which is fine. But they just barely sell for me at the shop anymore.

I've looked at the color comics once, and it when Grant Morrison wrote a couple of issues. That was probably enough for me.

Superman, Detective, Tales from the Crypt, Ranger, a Haunt of Fear...all stuff I could have sold if I got it at the right price, even in the conditions they were in.
mikester.bsky.social
I mean, there were sound double-digit Superman and Detective books, some Tales from the Crypt...all would have sold fine, but I don't think this seller liked being given an honest appraisal of the conditions and resulting prices.

UPDATE: yes, they were actually Golden Age books, but they were falling apart as they were pulled out of the Mylars. I could've sold them for cheap if I could have bought them for cheap, but nope, that wasn't happening. Ah well.
mikester.bsky.social
okay, got a call from someone saying they have Golden Age books to bring in, let's see what actually turns up
mikester.bsky.social
Ooh, there was a time when I *would* have bought those.
mikester.bsky.social
Last Golden Age/early Silver collection I picked up was just a boatload of CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED (many 1st and 2nd editions), ROY ROGERS, DALE EVANS, and the early EC title PICTURE STORIES FROM THE BIBLE, plus goodies. CI and RR aren't *fast* sellers, but I've got a couple customers into them.

I apologize if the World's Biggest Purgatori Fan happens to do a term-search and reads this, it's just a running joke of mine.
mikester.bsky.social
"Hello, I'm the most literal minded collector around! I have Golden Age for sale!"

Well, I can't be mad, really.
mikester.bsky.social
every comics age is someone's Golden Age!

except when Purgatori was coming out
mikester.bsky.social
oh no no no, that was just me positing a theoretical
mikester.bsky.social
Yeah, they're not actually here yet, so maybe there's a slim chance of these being actual comics from the '30s and '40s, but until they're actually here it's like Schrödinger's comic book collection.

[me, looking in the box] "so are the Golden Age books underneath all these copies of SHADOWHAWK, or...?"

So now I'm just fiddling around on my blog fixing typos. OFF TO BED, ME

I'm so mad this isn't one of the main covers. I'm hoping it's one of the ratio variants, like 1 in 25 or whatever.
mikester.bsky.social
Have yet to be able to actually *read* anything from this.

This flash-drive distributed archive of Marvel Comics PDFs (licensed, don't worry!) that I'm supposed to review is already in the hole, as far as I'm concerned, since the DRM reader on the drive won't install, and I had to jump through other hoops that aren't in the documentation, such as it is.
