I don't know if it was the movie or just me but this thing nearly put me to sleep. I love a slow, deliberately-paced horror story but this was sparse on gripping characters or subject matter.

Extremely rough snippets from the bowels of WIP hell about night terrors that I almost forgot I'd been working on

A shadow would fall on him and a cloud of smoke would follow. The unmistakable scent of tobacco would fill up his nostrils and sting his eyes.

"Come back to us, Moxx," he'd hear his father's voice say in the distance. "Come back to your family. Your Daddy misses you."

"No," he'd say back. "No, that's a fucking -lie- and you know it. -I- know it. So stop fucking around, playing games with me!"

Moxxie would feel a hand seize the front of his jacket and pull him towards a pair of yellow eyes glowing in the smoke.

"-Who's- fuckin' around here?" his father's voice would snarl. "You're the one who turned tail without a word. Now you're nothing, a nobody shacked up with some Wrathian broad, pretendin' you're makin' some business. Pretendin' you can outdo your own old man!"

The last thing he'd see were his father's claws, reaching out to coil themselves around his throat.

He'd wake up in a cold sweat, eyes darting about his surroundings, expecting to awaken to prison bars or the stifling green of his bedroom.

He was hoping the dreams would die down once he and Millie started living together.

For a while, they did.

They'd go to bed making out, cuddling, or fucking until they couldn't hold their eyes open any longer--often all three. Whatever the scenario he'd fall asleep with her arms wrapped around him, or his arms wrapped around her, or just feeling the weight of her body settled against his. He'd fall asleep feeling safe, and the dreams that followed were also peaceful (well, maybe not the ones involving Millie killing everything--but those made -him- feel safe).

Then, one night, his dreams were interrupted by the sound of Crimson's voice.

"Come back home, Moxx," Crimson's voice would always usher him, sounding uncharacteristically soft, reminiscent of the faded memories of when he spoke affectionately to his mother.

Moxxie would instinctively reach for his gun, his father's figure would appear in the smoke and then--

He'd wake up with a yell or a gasp loud enough to stir Millie awake. She'd bolt up and pull one of her knives wedged to her bedpost.

"Wha--" Millie stammered, pointing the knife at nothing in the darkness. "What's goin' on, hon? Who do we gotta kill?!"

"It's...oh fuck..." Moxxie said, pressing a palm to his sweaty forehead. "It's nothing, honey, just...just a nightmare."

He sucked in a breath of air as he leaned back against the pillows. "Fuck, I'm sorry."
