The massive influx of high traffic accounts unaccustomed to the practice of using Alt text have diluted its use into obscurity.

The ubiquity of Alt txt makes Bluesky a welcoming space for disabled folk like me.

Don't slam the door on the faces of the differently abled by skipping the Alt txt.
Bluesky has a setting that will remind a user to add Alt text before posting. Sometimes, people underutilize the feature. You get 2000 characters to describe your image. This not only helps people with visual issues but clarifies the content for automated tools and indexes. It also can help provide useful context for everyone. Alt text makes the world better. Don't be lazy. Skipping Alt text tells your followers who use it, that you don't value them, and you won't be bothered to include space for them in your content. Before the new influx from the X-odus, it was normal for users to not repost material missing Alt text. ( Or to repost with it with the Alt text added as a gentle reminder to the original poster) Two weeks ago, I saw perhaps 1 in 10 images without Alt text. Today, it was less than 1 in 25 that included it. Please folks, Don't let habitual ableism destroy the inclusiveness that exists on Bluesky. SNAP is one of our best programs, but universal basic income would be better, especially for local stimulus. SNAP can only be spent on food—and not even all food. No hot food. Nor all stores. Cash can buy anything anywhere. With SNAP, higher pay can also mean becoming worse off. Not true with UBI.

Reporter: SNAP is so stimulative to our economy. There are lots of rural stores where 60% of their sales are SNAP sales. So that rural store might have to shutter its doors. This is our collective struggle. All of us do better when people experiencing hunger do better. All of us lose when they don't

I never looked to @teenvouge.com to be a source of quality journalism, but I was pleasantly surprised by outstanding features that earned my respect over recent years.

It troubles me how many people are living an algorithmic life, just following the prescribed flow without any introspection.

Going through the motions without context or understanding what they are doing or why.

Purpose needs to be the primary foundation of function. Not just following procedure.

It's not immigrants posing a threat to your pets, it's self driving cars that tech bros have released before they have been made street safe that are coming for your critters.

No doubt the string of 'sincere' apologies written by AI & a token donation to some random charity is an adequate solution.

These guys like to think if they move fast enough they will be immune to natural consequences like a certain famous road runner.

The rest of us live in the real world, and will suffer similar fates to that coyote as the world chases to follow this tech bro vision of the future at full speed ahead.

The US government most certainly won't be promoting any kind of positive public health policies in the foreseeable future.

Asking folk to protect others by masking should resonate with folks who aren't inherently sociopathic.

Some evidence this advice is good is it is not endorsed by RFK's H.H.S.

The French government is asking us to mask up. In ads everywhere we are asked to protect others from potentially getting infected by whatever we might carry.

This is one* reason why I like living here. They ask us to protect not ourselves but others.

Has it not occurred to anyone that you could leave the clocks alone and just adjust working hours to match the sun?

Is not a world based on standard time with seasonally adjusted business hours less disruptive overall?

Newsom's point is how your skeet is an oversimplification that distorts his position.

He is fine with recreational sport for all. Just not competition.

I support his advocacy efforts for democracy but I find this a troubling revelation into the abelistic philosophy underlying his view of humanity.

The age of climate change is being accelerated by heavy investment in AI infrastructure, which is also a major threat to every aspect of a free society.

Gates is making investments in tech whose negative aspects require oversight & wisdom to mitigate.

This balancing force doesn't exist today.

Once upon a time I would have said nationalize this infrastructure, but this global network is beyond US boarders and frankly the US has proven itself unfit to manage such an enterprise after abrogating it's USAID responsibilities.

What we have is a table set for disaster. We need an alternative.

In short, the problem here is not that Signal ‘chose’ to run on AWS. The problem is the concentration of power in the infrastructure space that means there isn’t really another choice: the entire stack, practically speaking, is owned by 3-4 players. 11/

When your protection against a technology company abusing your use of their product is dependent on the laws of their home nation being obeyed, you need the rule of law to be perdictably rock solid and universally applied.

This administration ended that. Here is one of the natural consequences.
