I looked these up in light of the gutting of our ability to respond to Ebola and every other possible outbreak, but it struck me that THIS is the guy who wants to criminalize criticism of the president and his leadership?

The reason a lot of white people can operate in the privilege of a comment like “we used to be able to have dissenting opinions & now they break friendships” is because the people of color in the room had to be silent in order to remain in the room safely.

In light of recent violence and also protests at recent Pagan Pride Day events, I want to assure everyone of a few things:

We do actually have a Head of Security, Paul McCartney. For those who do not know, he has military and extensive first aid experience.

We have written an internal security plan as a guide for all our security volunteers. We also need to submit security plans to the city each year, which get approved by the Long Beach Police Department.

We strongly encourage everyone attending our event to NOT engage protesters. This tactic has worked in Chicago (two days ago), Philadelphia, and probably other events I am not aware of. If protesters are disruptive, like last year, we will call the police and it will be handled, like happened last year.

It is up to all of us to make it a safe environment for everyone, free of verbal and physical harassment.
