The argument that we’re not allowed to call these people Nazis wears a little thin once we’ve arrived at such direct Anne Frank parallels.

You can stiff a contractor after they’ve done the remodel, but you can’t stiff the military before you’ve fully instituted martial law. Classic mistake.

At least in the sense of “the real Lynyrd Skynyrd understood what it takes to conquer every major American city in a way that you amateurs never will,” is I guess what I was getting at here.

Sometimes I genuinely think that we’re basically dealing with a Hitler cover band, if that makes sense.

Muting “I think you meant to say,” “It’s almost,” “And you’re surprised” and “You misspelled” might catch some false positives, but I’m growing increasingly willing to risk it.

AI HUCKSTER: "i built you a machine that reads books for you."

ME: "can you build me a machine that unloads the dishwasher for me so *i* can read a book?"

Well, it’s a good thing that Hegseth and Trump took the time to make those speeches last week that famously got the military on board with their agenda and didn’t at all embarrass the nation itself on the world stage.

I’m sorry, James Acaster’s full what name?

I love that James Acaster's full wrestling name is James 'James Acaster' Acaster.

“Since the dawn of time, the greatest question that mankind has grappled with has been the meaning of life itself. Now, finally, we are on the verge of conquering the question by stripping life of all meaning.”

“We’re finally on the cusp of creating entire feature films by nobody, that mean nothing, for an audience of one.”

Why, though?

Whenever some tech bro celebrates a technology that “removes the barrier” of creative expression or skill, and “democratizes” the process of creating units of content, I think about self-driving cars that don’t even need people as passengers.

“What if we could do this in a way that meant nothing?”

TikTok came around at a time when I’d already correctly decided I was too old and too textual for Snapchat. I said “No, thanks, but have fun,” and I didn’t give it a second thought.

I certainly didn’t sit around waiting for a non-human alternative to genuine joy and creative expression.
mjmbca.bsky.social
Most people on TikTok aren’t talented singers, dancers, performers or editors. A lot of them just do their own thing, at an amateur level, for the sheer creative human joy of doing so, as we should all be free to do.

It’s not like they make you audition before they let you install the app.

I know this isn’t the point, but there is no such thing as a person who always wanted to post on TikTok but was never able to because the “singing and dancing” standard was simply too high and exclusive.

“And another thing: Eric didn’t fail. Please don’t put in the newspaper that Eric failed.”
mjmbca.bsky.social
Not to put on my strategic comms hat about it, but in general, if the vast majority of voters think that Eric failed, and you’re trying to make the case that Eric didn’t fail, don’t say “Stop saying Eric failed” on camera. Especially if you’re Eric.
mjmbca.bsky.social
“Eric got indicted on federal charges of bribery, fraud, and soliciting illegal foreign campaign donations” admittedly isn’t a very “creative” way of saying he failed, but I think it’s still pretty noteworthy.

"What is it going to take before you drop your hate and say, 'Listen, the guy did the job!' I'm not running anymore, so you no longer have to do this whole charade. I turned the city around, folks—come on! ... Stop coming up with all of these creative ways of saying 'Eric failed.' Eric didn't fail."

That’s what I mean, though. I see “Are We the Baddies?” thrown around because ICE agents wear masks and won’t identify themselves, for example. And it’s funny, but it takes away from the point that they do those things specifically because they know that what they’re doing is wrong.
