Although I am following the steps to add ALT text to the photos included in my WordPress essays, it doesn't seem to actually include the ALT text. (Nor does it include the captions I provide.) It is frustrating, but I hope to figure out what step I'm missing. My apologies.

Just got off the phone w/ my mom. She asked how the new book was. Then she told me that "Maxine"--i.e., Maxine Hong Kingston, whom she hasn't met--published 6 major works and is now taking it slower, so "if you can just publish 6 books, then that would be good." 😂

Hi, friends. I'm sad to report that my mom passed away on Sept. 22. She was peaceful and comfortable, which is a blessing, but I'll really miss her. She taught me the most important things--help others; be curious--by example, and I would absolutely not be the person I am without her influence.

My mom was a chemistry professor and each year would invite all the international students to our house for Thanksgiving dinner. I wrote about that (and what it taught me) here:

I've written about my mom several times, so in her memory, I'd love if you read about her. Her Betty Crocker cookbook (though thankfully, not her parenting!) inspired parts of my first novel, Everything I Never Told You. I wrote about her, and it, here.
