that it can't come anywhere close to the '51 and '82 versions, and as such just feels disappointing.

wholesale from the previous movies, to the point that you almost wonder why they bothered. and the inconsistency of the thing's behaviour just smacks of laziness. its good moments are really good - i actually love the bit over the end credits - but they can't save it. i don't hate it, it's just 3/x

cast all did a great job, and they all seemed to be into the material. there was nothing wrong with the direction, lighting, sound, anything like that. but the effects just serve to ruin all that good work. and to be honest, the writing could have been a lot better. there was too much lifted 2/x

well i tried, went in with an open mind and gave it a fair go. still not a convert though. pretty much everything i want to say about it is up in the previous comments, but my main takeaway is what a waste this was. viewing it in light of what happened with the vfx makes it just plain sad. the 1/x

another thing i don't like is the amount of plot armour some characters get. in some scenes the creature is like an apex predator, but when our heroes are threatened it's kind of a bumbling oaf.

it's a real shame, they know how to do action scenes but the visuals suck the life and tension out of them. such a frustrating watch.

that's what's getting me, it's too scared to do its own thing. i'm sure it would have been better on the big screen, especially if the crowd was digging it.

the cgi does look really bad though. even for shots which could have easily been done practically.

i know that a major reason for my disliking this originally was the cgi, but it's also feeling a lot like just a retread of its predecessors.

okay, my last one today for #vundahalloweenathon is another rewatch. that last one put me in mind for a reappraisal of the most recent of this little family of movies. #nowwatching the thing (2011), one which didn't impress me at all first time, but which i'm feeling lenient towards right now.
