My barn is an odd structure. Probably first built about the same time as my house (@1860), the approx. 30x40' bank barn burned in 1949. We cleared and stabilized the foundation walls, and my sheep live downstairs. My parents' house is on top! I've been patching 100-y.o. concrete this fall.

A blue heeler dog walks across a barn floor. The floor surface is a patchwork of 100-year-old concrete, new concrete, and a section of freshly-laid brick pavers. The bricks are salvaged and were bought for just $.60/brick.

The initials of one of the Navin family, and a date (1924?) scratched into old concrete in the barnyard. The original structure that occupied the site was larger than the present building that sits on the old foundation walls.

My dad (a retired architect in his 80s) calls this the "Bahh-haus," because my flock of sheep live in the lower level. In this picture, I am sitting on my tractor, looking north into the barnyard, two open bays at ground level, and my parents' house above. The house is one storey tall, and is painted dark blue with a yellow accent wall and small, colorful window frames. The trees behind the house still have some fall color, and the sky is the intense color Vermonters call "bluebird."

The frost yesterday morning, and the track of a chipmunk (or a rat!) in some of the concrete I recently poured in the barn.
