“The funeral isn’t just for him. His body isn’t going to be there either. We don’t usually get the luxury of burying our dead. When an outlaw falls, it’s usually out on the field. The authorities take the body and do whatever they want with them. They dissect us and study our remains as they try to uncover the mysteries of mystic arts and metahumanity. Not that it really matters, we’re criminals. We couldn’t even collect the bodies of the vanilla’s without getting caught ourselves. Body heists have worked in the past, but they are costly bits of sentimentality. It’s best to just let them bury our husks in the Potter’s Field. Your father was with his enemies, even if those weren’t Broadnax’s men, his body is out of reach.” It was odd hearing him talk about it. His matter-of-fact tone hid a little sadness, even the most evil of men could have friends they’ll miss. “So, we hold our funeral on the full moon, changing the location every time. We mourn and remember our fallen in safety, together.”

Mr. Schadenfreude has become something of a burnout over his decades of servitude. He exercises his limited free will in petty and obnoxious ways, but he also likes butterfly effects that bloom into pure chaos. Inviting some drug addict to Maya's 12th birthday has fallout 5 years later.

Mr. S has a bestie, The Puppeteer. They first bonded over killing Nazis. While Mr. S is sardonic, the Puppeteer is compassionate and optimistic.

Maya's bestie is Burn; a fellow outcast from school. They are each other's port-in-the-storm when trouble comes.

Maya remained silent, C-listers weren’t going to be able to handle this. Though, she does perk up, “Do you know how to get a hold of Megaton? She seemed to like me.”
“Maeve can, not a bad choice. But she’s really just a good start.” Schadenfreude thought for a moment and the light bulb lit up, “We can kill two birds with one stone.”
“I’ve got, like, half the idea,” Maya weighed his words.
“You want regalia. Which means it’s a trip to Seattle, but that also means we can headhunt at the same time.”
“Do I get to design my costume?” Maya is excited now.
“It’s more involved, especially for us sorcerers. Our regalia stays with us a little longer, but it’s more than armor or a costume. While I have been making my coat look good for 170 years, it's far more than a coat or protection. The folds of my coat are infinite and deep, even without Thompson. His treat pocket is one of the most secure enclosures in the cosmos.” There was much trial and error trying to ward the pocket against the intrusion of a being that treats space like origami paper.

Mr. Schadenfreude wasn’t afraid to get up close and personal with Apex. After finishing the spellwork, he launched himself through the commotion, using the maelstrom to his greatest advantage. Apex barely had time to dodge the now salivating beast; Mr. Schadenfreude delved into his own pantheon and had drawn forth The Monster of Earth 23: his atavistic form that was the essence of Primordial Conflict. A barbed tongue drew power from the bleed in reality as the rest crashed its way through the debris to Apex. He barely had time to respond with his own magics as the carcinized ape slammed against the shielding. The eight eyes focused on Apex, “Does it still keep you awake at night? That you’re only alive because I wanted a pet?”

A casino heist going down hill

Maya quickly blew a small hole in the bathroom wall to let Evilneezer do his thing, before running out and into a hurricane of chaos. The screams and cries were muted by the odd percussive sound of emus running rampant. Security was trying to wrangle them to no avail. A blackjack dealer imposed himself between one of the flightless birds and a group of platinum card members. Maya was going to question how all of this happened when Thompson rode by her, full-loaf mode and contented as his avian steed headed into the mess.

“You’re a solid ‘C’ student with potential, at least that’s what your teachers thought; I think they might be right. It looks like you figured passing tests would get you by and it sort of did. You spent a lot of time on forums and message boards related to Outlaw fandom. I know about ShocktoMama69.” Maeve whispered the last part. “I’ve seen way worse, but I’d read a couple of romance novels before trying your hand at those parts, again. You should just own up to it. Shocktopus could use the pick-me-up of knowing he has a fan.”
Maya felt the walls of the Cosmos close in around her as Maeve spilled all her beans on the table, “Dude.”
“The tentacles offer up a lot of possibilities.”
