They need to be able to practice flying fighter planes over long distances, and Israel controls all the airspace around Qatar. No, you can't just use any airport.

I don't think that's correct. Israel claims it previously intercepted and observed plans and rehearsals for attacks on kibbutzes, which it says it dismissed. My recollection of the "Jericho Wall" plans it leaked to NYT in 2023 showed kibbutz attacks. Without an independent inquiry, who knows?
