Even if Blizzard “lessens the cognitive load”, there are going to be people who struggle and have less fun in the game. Not because they’re lazy, but because of the way their body/mind works.

And I am one of them.

The whole “git gud”/“adapt or quit playing” response to the removal of combat addons from WoW infuriates me. It’s not just that people are trying to take the easy way out. Some people just literally CANNOT process information in the way it’s presented by the game.

Accessability features aren't advantages. Myself and many other disabled players can't play the game without them. It's not an advantage. It allows us to just even fucking show up.

If the removal of addons goes ahead, I LITERALLY won't be able to play this game I love dearly at all anymore.

Im generally for the changes coming for the limitation of addons, with the caveat that ive been worried from the start how these changes will impact people who use addons for accessibility reasons. Heres a thread on reddit filled with firsthand experiences of how they use addons for accessibility.

WeakAuras is being discontinued, the new Taylor Swift album is meh, and don’t get me started on politics.

Given that I don’t drink anymore, I had no option but to binge-eat four rather large oatmeal raisin cookies to try and make myself feel better.

My heart breaks for everyone who was impacted by today’s layoffs at ZeniMax Online Studios and Blizzard. It feels so unfair that so many brilliant and talented people who helped bring joy to literally millions have been cast out in the name of profitability.

How significant that compromise is remains to be seen. Ultimately I think this change will decrease my enjoyment of certain types of content and I’ll enjoy WoW less because of it. /3

There is zero chance that Blizzard can reproduce what assistive addons provide in a way that works for every single player in every single situation they’re used in today. Players who use addons today will be forced to “settle”, to compromise, if they want to keep playing WoW. /2

The thing about addons is that for many people, like me, they make the game more accessible. I use addons to help me parse information from the game in the way that works for me personally. I choose what information I want and how I receive it. /1
