Rarity finders: Eastern Nightingale in Aberdeenshire

A major prize was hiding among a fall of common migrants at Rattray Head for Andy Carroll, who discovered a fascinating nightingale from the east:

Spotted a Barred Warbler with a metal ring near my hometown last month — just found out it was originally ringed in Israel. Amazing to think how far it’s traveled! You can read the full story on the BirdLife Israel website.

Hi Alan,
as you said adult males should show more white in the GC but I'm not sure about the sex and age so far, sure it's not a 1st winter.
Furthermore I find it quite easy to spot photos from Hong Kong, Russia, Taiwan or Alaska with similar/same wing panels, even with less white in GC.
Found this interesting looking Wagtail in a flock of ca. 60 White Wagtails today at Pareyer Luch, Eastern Germany. It showed a complete eye stripe on both side of head and looks quite promising to be an East Siberian Wagtail (ocularis).

We have just returned from La Janda, S Spain, where we sampled some of the wintering Siberian buntings (1 Rustic, 5 Little Buntings) to uncover their birth/breeding origins. Huge thanks to the Cigüeña Negra ringing group for the warm welcome! @pdvsky.bsky.social #ornithology
