I've been reliably informed that his name was Yarik.
I'm beyond questioning of such things.
Our garden Yellow-browed Wblr showed very nicely all day today. We'll be giving it a name soon! #SpurnBirds
It does represent the place very well, but the composition also leads you in. It makes you want to go on a journey into this landscape, which is as much a part of the story as the owls are. I love that cover.
Sadly, I prefer the US version. However, i much preferred the cover style and font of Owls of the Eastern Ice over both of these. That drew you in organically with a well chosen scenery shot, it was gorgeous. These new ones are more 'in your face'. I'll still get it though 🙂

A few opportunities to learn about rare breeding birds and the work of the RBBP. If your bird club/wildlife group/RSPB group would like an online talk from our Secretary @markaeaton.bsky.social, get in touch.
There are much closer photos out there, but in a mad dash "extended lunch break", I was happy just to see the Spurn Blk-faced Bunting. Then this Yellow-browed Wblr brightened up the afternoon back at my desk, giving our best ever garden showing despite just managing to see one every year #SpurnBirds
Turns out the pod of Bottlenose Dolphins that went north past Kilnsea & Easington yesterday morning contained a well known female called "Runny Paint" after the distinctive markings around her dorsal fin (visible in 3rd photo) @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social
Hopefully things pick up for you there, its not been a good autumn for the hallowed isle.
The skies were dripping with thrushes today, but the arrival was localised mainly to the Kilnsea and south side of Easington. Despite looking out from the gas terminal for the whole morning, only 7 Redwings came in! But a few minutes walk to the south this pm, and I joined in the Fieldfare fun.
Looking forward to the citation in your next book!
The 2024 BBRC report is now available via the website, and will be hitting doormats pretty soon:

Why does my emoji suddenly have a full Tom Selleck 'tach!?
This tiny patch of rank grass on the Easington coast path held a much anticipated Yellow-browed Wblr tonight. Presumably fresh in at 1730hrs. Autumn is finally here!
Nuthatch coming in off and landing on the rocks at Aber Dysynni, nr Tywyn.
Its as if the universe has twice now said, 'how long does it take to get from Spurn to this needletail? Ok, hold...hold....hold... and reveal yourself!!".
Its a f*****g conspiracy!!
And 6 there tonight, on Old Channel Marshes, Outstrays NR. @birdguides.bsky.social

Possibly the worst picture of Glossy Ibis taken this year, but theres 11 of them and they're on patch.
Harrison probably kept a French list....
110-120 nautical miles (c.125 miles) SSW of Scilly is well into French waters and almost on the Biscay shelf edge!!
The Wilsons triangle was, AFAIK, not far beyond Scilly. Certainly doable in a day trip from Penzance on the Scillonian. To get to the canyons would be 12 hours solid steaming at 15 knots from Penzance, regardless of weather.
