When I first read this in the 90s as a teenager, it seemed comical and exaggerated. World War II and nazi ideology seemed so far away and absurd. But it's any propaganda machine, any time, any means of dissemination. Why do people need it? Why is it so important?

Reread Mother Night. What if there was a public speaker whose fame was due to bad-faith, racist rhetoric, and they were put to death for those ideas? What if a large mass of people needed to grind the gears of reason to make these words fit in an insane machine? A+
