And self-imporvement is difficult and requries admitting that you're not the most special person in all the world, so it's more comforting to just pretend it's the world's fault and break everything and everyone that fails to be suitably affirming for you.

It makes a lot of sense. I feel like a lo of facism ultimately boils down to mediocre people unable to deal with the conlict between their desire to envision themselves as the coolest, greatest, bestest ever, and the fact that they're just not.
