most of you (probably) know that I am a librarian, specifically a public librarian who specializes in collection management

so in 2025 I’m going to post book stuff occasionally, when I read something that I want to share

currently thinking I will pin this thread and add to it throughout the year

having lunch with my favorite person, which is my fancy way to say “I am eating by myself”

(I know that I need ample alone time during events like this and meals can be good for that! I also plan to enjoy dinner with my favorite person this evening)

the music at this hotel restaurant has included echo and the bunnymen, the cult, oasis, everclear, and stone temple pilots and @putnam39.bsky.social has been patiently tolerating my running commentary

Quinn Chapel, the oldest Black church in Chicago, was our first stop. Then we went by the King Branch Library and saw the Bronzeville plaque which celebrates all of the amazing culture that comes from this historic neighborhood

Dilla’s Bronzeville tour was amazing. He’s brilliant and funny and knows so much about Chicago history, especially the history of the city’s south side. When you visit Chicago, check it out—it’s a great time!

I made it to Rosemont (my Chicago driving skills clicked back into place as soon as I got past 80). first order of business after lunch is a preconference bus tour of Bronzeville with Dilla, a Chicago historian! (he’s also one of our keynote speakers)

I am about to drive up to Rosemont for the Illinois Library Association annual conference, an event I’ve been looking forward to since July 2024 when I accepted the role of conference co-chair.

I’ve learned a lot over the last 15 months and I’m excited to see how it all comes together!
