“.. Inside the White House, top advisers joke that they are ruling Congress with an “iron fist,” according to people who have heard the comments. Steve Bannon, the influential Trump ally, likened Congress to the Duma, the Russian assembly that is largely ceremonial.”

They’re dancing around these things but it’s pretty clear from this panel neither wants to put the kibosh on the other and get second place. It’s in both their best interest

All I care about is Sultana’s getting out in front of everybody else and already in conversation with Polanski that they’re going to do it as a coalition
nateo.bsky.social
Eh Sultana’s got her foot on the gas at the morning panel
nateo.bsky.social
My bodged team placed third, with a small spread from the winner. I think the bronze as good enough

Polanski’s surprise guest appearance as presenter for the pub quiz was, on the other hand, quite enjoyable for everyone involved

If our TV networks had not been captured by the right wing, some very easy journalism would be to play this clip besides a very not on fire Portland and then tell viewers that the President of the United States is living in an alternate reality.

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

To be fair to the party leadership, they are currently to the left of Labour on most issues, but that reflects Labour’s massive rightward shift
nateo.bsky.social
People, generally, don’t like hearing the truth about a moribund party they’re also a member of, but I see nothing wrong with them peeling off Labour votes

They’re fbpe types, with all the negative things that entail. Not against Brexit for any principled reasons, in my estimation. Very middle England. Always considered them a nonentity when it comes to left-wing politics

My controversial take is LibDems, like most British people, are racist and anti-immigrant by default, they just don’t run on racism and anti-immigrant policy like more overt right-wing parties. I also happen to be correct

Quite a feat to go from this to "and therefore universities must ban faculty and students from belittling conservative ideas"
nateo.bsky.social
Not really. They were in coalition with the Tories and originally split from Labour. They’re probably closest to a centrism of homeowners and landlords that are racist and aren’t keen on immigrants in practice, but in the normal British mode of operation, not the right-wing type that are overtly so

Machado issues her first statement since being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and makes a thinly-veiled appeal to Trump for US intervention in Venezuela:

This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.
We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy.
I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!

All I want in life is to persuade everyone, when encountering politics & culture, to ask, "why are we talking about this?" I mean that very literally: anything you encounter on your screens reflects a choice. Someone covered that, talked about that, rather than the many other things out there. Why?

Machado has embraced the United States's indiscriminate murder of Venezuelan mariners in international and Venezuelan waters in the Caribbean Sea. She thinks it will help her gain power.

This is your white "peace".

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."
