In response real lovers of free speech should attach the adjective rapist to Trump as often as possible. Streisand the heck out of this settlement by rapist Trump with craven ABC.
mehdirhasan.bsky.social
All the ‘Free Speech!’ centrists, leftists-turned-conservatives, Intellectual Dark Web types will have nothing to say about this dangerous and authoritarian trend. (They’re too busy policing placards at campus protests.)
Trump and His Picks Threaten More Lawsuits Over Critical Coverage
The small flurry of threatened defamation suits is the latest sign that the incoming Trump administration appears poised to do what it can to crack down on unfavorable media coverage.

So the Ministry of Joy is now suppressing content showing brutality by the regime.

Nothing Orwellian here having the techlord handmaidens doing this kind of censorship
premthakker.bsky.social
Huh: TikTok took down my 8-second video featuring this image of Debbie Brockman — the news producer just detained by Trump’s CBP agents — saying it violates the “joy of TikTok”
nathansnewman.bsky.social
But it is Trump who is abusing prosecutorial power over an over again to target not real crimes but just concocting stories to attack political enemies.

There is not some "escalation" or "both sides" politicizing prosecutions.

Trump is a criminal and was found to be one by multiple juries.
nathansnewman.bsky.social
Trump whines about unfair prosecution, but New Yorkers have applauded a former Democratic State Assembly Speaker being indicted and multiple former Democratic Governors and Attorney Generals being forced to resign because of corruption and sexual abuse allegations.
nathansnewman.bsky.social
One thing Cuomo's mealy-mouthed response should remind the media of: Trump was not taken down by Tish James & Manhattan DA because he's a Republican, he was taken down because he was corrupt and sexual abuser, just as Cuomo was taken down because he was corrupt and a sexual abuser.
nathansnewman.bsky.social
GOP has proven their belief in "states rights" is a farce.

Will they trash all of "originalism" to bend the knee to Trump?

Judge Perry ruled Texas troops could not be sent to Chicago citing Hamilton that such an idea would be "preposterous"

nathansnewman.bsky.social
I meant to say "or name Tish James" but little question Cuomo is thrilled James has been indicted, since he shares Trump's grievances that she dared to investigate them both.

It was James who released report on Cuomo's sexual harassment that forced his resignation

Cuomo will not attack Trump or Tish James by name because he will be Trump's agent in NYC.

As Mamdani says, this is mealy-mouthed platitude by Cuomo, not a challenge to rising authoritanism.
nathansnewman.bsky.social
Dems need to make it clear that no deal will happen until everyone furloughed or RIFed is guaranteed their jobs back.

Fight for jobs and health care - that is the winning message to the public.
nathansnewman.bsky.social
Cuomo just has contempt for New Yorkers, assuming they will believe his constant stream of lies.

But probably has the proper level of contempt for the media, which he assumes will mostly repeat his lies without fact checking them.

You can tell Cuomo's campaign has cooked its brain on Twitter because it's repeating nonsense talking points from people like Andrew Fine and Reza who claim only rich people use transit.

As of 2017, bus riders in NYC earn an average salary of $28K, well under subway riders ($40K).

This is a twofer for the Trumpists- it bails out their local plutocratic allies running Argentina at the same time it bails out the US plutocrats who had invested in the rightwing Argentina regime's failed economy

Soldiers and civil servants aren't getting paid- but investor friends of the Trump administration just got paid bigtime with the Argentinian bailout

I did not have frog costumes becoming the iconic symbol of resistance to Trump 2025 on my bingo card.

But Trump deserves a farcical ridiculous picture next to his entry in history so I am good with this.

There they go, rewarding nonviolent struggle for democracy in Venezuela when the Committee could have recognized the guy committing war crimes murdering Venezuelan civilians at sea.

And no, cutting deals in Gaza to further your crypto deals with Arab Emirates doesn't qualify you for the Nobel.
nathansnewman.bsky.social
Just to.make clear GOP rhetoric on "states rights" was always just opposition to civil rights.

Never anything else.

The Senate has defeated a plan from Democrats to block President Trump's use of National Guard troops in various cities - if local officials oppose their deployment from other states.

Your timely reminder that Donald Trump tried to claim NYC residence to take a $49,000 tax break on his Manhattan condo while he and Melania lived in the White House, only to get it yanked after my colleague and I caught the misrepresentation.

Trump will try to put Democratic leaders across the nation in detention camps before the 2026 elections to take out any potential opposition to him stealing the election.

Billionaires are buying every institution from the media to voting technology companies that might challenge a MAGA theft of the 2026 elections.

The oligarchs are preparing the way for a Trump fascist coup next year.

I've been wondering why Dominion Voting Systems suddenly reached settlements with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and One America News.

Turns out, it's been purchased by a Republican-owned election tech firm that insisted on it, per Axios.

Oh yes - and yet I am a strong supporter of Mamdani. Marxist Hegelianism in practice :)
nathansnewman.bsky.social
That part where you say you are a Marxist. As Marx himself said himself of sectarian followers: "All I know is that I am not a Marxist" As Engels wrote commenting on this, few issues are "settled" and need to be continually debated so there is no "Marx 101"

Hate to break it to you, but I teach Marx to undergraduates at CUNY, so my version gets more distribution both via this site and to students in NYC than your sectarian version.

I mean- I'm sure your little ML grouplet has infinite critiques of the 7th Congress plenary of the 5th International's discussion of this issue - but most people recognize that NYC voters electing a socialist to be mayor is workers exercising their control of collective transit decisions.
nathansnewman.bsky.social
The government OWNS a third of the land in New York City in the form of streets, sidewalks and a few other uses. How to use that - which is very much a means of production - is very much a socialist decision.
