Because sometimes precision matters. You might understand somebody perfectly well if they say "Force" when you can figure out they mean "pressure," but you also know that being sloppy with that particular language has effects - even if not in that particular situation.

Ok, so the great vowel shift was well underway but still quite a long way from modern pronunciation. Presuming that this name started with a long "aaah" like "name," by the end of 👑 Lizzie's reign, the vowel was likely close to what you use for "dress" or "head," but lengthened.
