Homologation should have always been required for all race cars. Imagine walking into your local Cadillac/Buick/GMC dealer in the year 2000 and seeing one of these in Gold Firemist Metallic with turn signals and a plate bracket in the showroom between an 8th gen DeVille and a 1st gen Escalade

I think I mentioned it as “original” before and, while the car is a lot less original than we initially thought, the AC is original in that it’s been installed for the car’s entire life from what we can tell, just not factory optioned.

Yes, the AC is a dealer add-on type setup that’s mounted under the dash. It has the evaporator and blower motor under the passenger side and a set of vents and controls under the driver side. I wish I had a better shot of it by itself but this is what it looks like before and after removing the dash

The Camaro’s interior with the seats, carpet, dashboard, and center console removed. The AC system is lying on the floorpan. On the passenger side (near) is the main unit which has two vents on the front of the evaporator and blower motor. It is attached to the driver side with a corrugated ducting tube which has two additional vents and the controls for the system.

Not a ton of work done today but I had to finally christen the Camaro with some OATS. #weirdcarbs @ohoat.bsky.social

Still waiting on light bulbs for the cluster and foam for the heater ducts but gave the lower dash plastics a bath and painted and repaired the duct brackets which I dare say turned out better than factory, not that the bar was incredibly high to begin with. #weirdcarbs

Driver side bezel for the heater vent from the Camaro dashboard covered in years of grime.

One of the heater ducts with the rusty bracket still installed and the two pieces from the other side next to it. The brackets were untreated metal riveted into the plastic duct.

Inside of the duct with the bracket reinstalled. It has been cleaned and painted flat black and has new aluminum rivets.
