The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for the power to appoint the chairman, commissioners, and secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be moved from the presidency to an independent panel. IPAC National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, made the appeal during a meeting convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Constitutional Review for political party leaders in Abuja.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Tinubu of running an administration “rooted in forgery, deceit and moral bankruptcy”. In a statement on Wednesday, Atiku said the resignation of former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has exposed the “deep moral crisis” within the Tinubu administration. He described Nnaji’s resignation as an attempt to “whitewash a national disgrace”, arguing that the former minister should have been dismissed and prosecuted for falsification instead of being allowed to “quietly exit through the back door”.

Nigerians have reacted to the presidential pardon granted to Maryam Sanda, who killed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, in their Abuja residence on November 19, 2017. Maryam was among 175 convicts pardoned by President Bola Tinubu last week. Maryam, who was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging in 2020 by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, had spent six years and eight months at Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed Nnaji’s resignation in a statement released late Tuesday. Nnaji’s resignation comes amid growing controversy over his academic qualifications.An investigation which revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) disowned the Bachelor of Science degree certificate in Nnaji’s possession, stating that he did not complete his studies at the institution and was never issued a certificate.

The Lagos State Government has issued warning to property buyers to verify the authenticity of land documents before making purchases, following the demolition of 17 illegal structures along the Lekki-Epe corridor. The Anambra State Police Command has received a fresh deployment of over seventy newly passed-out constables from the Police Training College, Oji River, Enugu State.   According to the PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga,, the new officers, who recently completed their training, form part of the ongoing efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD NPM to strengthen the manpower capacity across the Federation and enhance community policing at the grassroots level.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly investigating Saleh Usman, chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), over allegations of corruption. According to media reports, Usman appeared before the anti-graft agency earlier on Tuesday and was granted bail after questioning. He was directed to report to the EFCC office daily pending the conclusion of the investigation.

The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and the support of the Rivers State Government  have disbursed N50,000 cash grant to empower 1000 women in Rivers State. While the RHI in collaboration with the TEF gave N50,000 each to 500 women; the state government led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his wife Lady Valerie Fubara backed the Initiative by giving the same amount to additional 500 women.

President Bola Tinubu has summoned the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, over allegations that he forged his university certificates. Premium Times had reported that Nnaji did not graduate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), alleging that the minister forged the academic documents he submitted for his appointment. The minister had claimed to have graduated from UNN in 1985 with a degree in microbiology.

Barring any last-minute changes, President Bola Tinubu is expected to nominate Joash Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as the next chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Amupitan is to succeed Mahmood Yakubu, whose 10-year tenure across two terms is coming to an end. According to Sahara Reporters, Tinubu has convened a meeting of the Council of State for Thursday to formalise the appointment.

President Bola Tinubu has accepted the departure of Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the expiration of his second term in office. Yakubu was first appointed in November 2015 as the 14th chairman of the commission for an initial term of five years. His appointment was renewed in 2020, bringing his tenure to an end after two terms in line with the law.

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has once again waded into Osun State politics following the declaration of Senator Iyiola Omisore to contest the 2026 governorship election. The Afrobeats singer reacted to Omisore’s post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, October 7, shortly after the former deputy governor publicly announced his ambition. Ehigie Uzamere, a former two-time Senator representing Edo South senatorial district, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to DAILY POST, Uzamere submitted his resignation letter, dated October 7, 2025, to Mr Osaigbovo Godspower, chairman of Ward 12 in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. Uzamere was first elected to the Senate under the PDP in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011 on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

The Presidency has said it will not take any action regarding the certificate forgery allegations against the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, until the court delivers its ruling on the matter. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this position clear while addressing journalists on Monday. He explained that since the controversy is already a subject of litigation, the Federal Government will allow the judicial process to run its course before deciding on the next steps.

Leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In an interview on Tuesday, Olaitan accused the APC of deceiving the public and manipulating figures. “APC is good at what they know how to do – deceive people, manipulate figures, conceal issues. That’s their job, and they know how to do it,” he said.
