Cynicism is corrosive to democracy. We're becoming more cynical, as a society, and that's why we're sliding into authoritarianism. We don't believe things can be better, so we don't demand it, and things get worse.

Fuck that. See the world the way it could be. And then help make it a reality.

There are very few circumstances under which I'd consider going to the US anytime soon, even if Trump is eventually thrown out.

Being invited to bring a pack of matches to the White House would almost certainly convince me to come.

Yes, but there's the name that the family use daily (sensible, everyday), and then a name that's particular (peculiar and more dignified), and one that you never will guess (that the cat knows and will never confess).

So someone referring to their cats would only use one, MAYBE two of the three.

I don't think it's the thinking it that he cares about. As I recall, he's made productive use of that a couple of times.

It's just trying to install him onto the throne that he takes issue with.

The column "Republicans" starts in January at 91%, climbs to 93% by February, drops over the next few months to 89% for June and July, before rebounding to 93% for August and September.

The column "Independents" starts in January at 46%, drops to 37% for February and oscillates between 33-37% until June, reaches a low of 29% in July, and then rebounds to 35% and 32% for August and September respectively.

Agreed. Maybe the quoted people can be excused, because they might not have been presented with the full context when asked for comment. For the "Common Defense" group, on the other hand, this is the kind of statement that spreads the shit onto them rather than cleaning any off of Platner.

And it's not just the elected Republicans. A Gallup poll for September 2025 had 93% of Republicans approving of Trump.

There aren't enough "normal Republicans" to take the party back. It's the MAGA party, from the leadership all the way down to individual voters, and it has been for years.

197 out of 207 House Republicans voted not to impeach Trump after he sent a violent mob directly into Congress after them. That's over 95%, and it's only gotten worse since 2021.
