Zero COVID is like zero TB. We haven’t achieved either globally… but we have achieved both in some jurisdictions. It’s a goal, rather than a permanent state. A commitment to iterative improvements.

It’s hard enough dealing with silent risks that take months or years to develop… such as a suboptimal diet… without the recent and deep trauma…

But the rational thing *is* to deal with it… and it’s just a matter of how much damage will come to pass before we do.
njbbari3.bsky.social
A bad thing happened. It was traumatic. People lost their lives and livelihoods for a while…

So we tried to bundle it into a box in the past like any other traumatic memory…

but the objective risk is still quite bad…

We need to start by being considerate towards those most vulnerable to infections in shared public spaces.

Yes. That does mean wearing a well fitted mask when going to the doctors, or the supermarket.

Cos we all need to go to those places.
njbbari3.bsky.social
There are studies showing damage to blood vessels… even in kids…

I’m not saying that we need to get paralysed by fear… but we do need to deal with this, the way we deal with smoking (a shared dirty air problem) or TB (a multisystem airborne infection that needs control).

There are thousands of studies showing the long term health risks to people posed by COVID-19.

Any rational person would look at this data and pause for thought.

I think we aren’t doing that because we aren’t very rational at the moment.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

You don’t have to provide information if you don’t know…

BUT

YOU DO HAVE TO EXERCISE PRECAUTION!
longcovidkids.bsky.social
Asked about providing guidance to schools re #LongCovid Gavin Williamson suggests providing no information was better than incorrect information. It appears this extended to not even confirming its existence leaving families we support subject to disbelief and fines #CovidInquiry

Reposted… but… not post C19.

In C19 era? In the fifth year of C19?

Can’t be post… it’s still here :-/

Today, the former Secretary of State for Education will give evidence to the U.K. COVID Inquiry. Our legal team will have an opportunity to ask questions on behalf of #Children with Long Covid.

5 years on CYP are still suffering with symptoms that impact their lives.

Maybe being sued for the cost of treatment might bring about change…
njbbari3.bsky.social
AND I’m not sure if it’s feasible to treat using such expensive stuff… only to practice no prevention and get reinfected…
njbbari3.bsky.social
I listened to some amazing talks about strategies to treat viral infections in the brain… including some novel therapies for C19…

Can’t say more because I’m not sure if it’s published yet… but I am v hopeful for the future… BUT it sounds expensive.

Yes… but with a twist. The actual state of my former “house” is in a state in my dream, and in reality.

Reminds me of that Cochrane mask debacle…

“Might have altered the effectiveness”.

FFS

Imagine trying to publish a drug trial with a negative result when you admit that you have no idea if people actually took it.

You have to wonder why they chose to report on that study so many years later…

Ummm, they don't even know if.the HEPA filters had been turned off or not.

"While measures were taken to prevent the HEPA cleaners from being turned off, we did not use sensors to monitor use, which may have altered the effectiveness of the intervention. "

Exactly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The CIDRAP study is old… pre-pandemic… and you have to ask the question… what has changed.

Important things about HEPA use… you have to have enough clean air delivery… and they need to be switched on. Using masks enhances the effect due to source control and reduction of near field transmission.
HEPA purifiers not tied to less #viral exposure in elementary classrooms, analysis finds
#HEPA purifiers were associated with a 33% decrease in viral diversity, but the reduction wasn't linked to fewer school absences.
Schools cut covid-19 sick days by 20 per cent using
HEPA air filters
Placing HEPA air filters into classrooms in the Bradford area of the UK reduced the number of covid-19-related absences among students by more than 20 per cent

These companies make vast sums of money, but don’t invest it back into safety…
njbbari3.bsky.social
What does it say about our society if we can’t make safe online spaces for kids to play?

We don’t close parks just because crime occurs there…

I did a thread on this not too long ago. The colon is designed to absorb salt and water. The kidneys then have to try to pee it all out again.

Not good to have too much salt.
