As the titular head of the federal judiciary, it is incumbent upon him (along with the Judicial Conference, which should have held a special meeting by now to address these dangerous attacks on the Article III branch).

He hasn't publicly. We don't have a full picture of what he has or hasn't done and what the relative posture of his office is vs ISP's.

Not saying it's ok, but think the rush to condemn seems a little premature.

So it seems like the cause du jour is to dump on Pritzker because IL State Police are acting in contradiction to his statements.

A lot of y'all need to grapple with the fact that increasingly LE just DGAF and quit assuming they are acting with Pritzker's approval.

Lori Lightfoot made a name for herself as a police reformer who would get LE under control in the wake of Laquan MacDonald.

The police union very quickly showed her who held the reins.

I think we need to understand a lot more before we assume the worst. LE has shown itself to be increasingly beyond civilian authority.

He can't fight every battle in the public eye and between the two, better to have him fighting Trump than focused on an internal struggle.

We also don't know what he may be doing behind the scenes. He may not be entirely able to stop it.

Hell, Republicans took the bill Dems put forward to *provide* healthcare and made it about killing people.

Republicans could start forcing thousands to face a firing squad and Dems would be still be speaking in thoughtfully measured tones about finding common ground.

The past decade has shown that law enforcement frequently operates outside the bounds of the law and shows at best a resentful, grudging obedience to civilian authority that they disagree with.

Pritzker's options are likely not as straightforward as it seems.

Up to this point, Governor Pritzker has said all the right things. If they're not backed up with action — specifically, control of your own law enforcement organization — then they were wasted breath.

Given his public posture, I can see ZERO reason to think Pritzker has ordered ISP to do what it's been doing.

In case you hadn't noticed, law enforcement tends to side with Trump very strongly and has increasingly felt empowered to act independently.

If I had to guess, I'd say Pritzker is choosing to focus on Trump rather than invest the time in bringing ISP to heel.

Life doesn't work like a Hollywood flick where Schwarzenegger bashes the baddies and wraps it all up in time for the credits.

The reason the ICE videos aren’t producing a backlash of that scale (yet) is that our institutional elites are deeply committed to ignoring them, which both reduces their spread and reduces the sense that this is something important we SHOULD be freaking out about.

As a mark of just how far from reality Trump & Miller are about Portland, note that Judge Karin Immergut, who rejected the administration's deployment of the Nat'l Guard there, was called out by the Leadership Conference for refusing to affirm Brown v. Board.
