Durch die neuen Vorgaben der aktuellen Bundesregierung steigen wahrscheinlich zu viele Leute auf hochmoderne Zukunftstechnologien um, wie z.B. Gas- und Kohleherde, holzbeheizte Waschtröge usw.

A dark band of clouds overshadows the ocean, bathing the north coast in an unreal light. View from Ponta de Cintrão towards the east.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The picture shows a large bay. In the foreground, there is trampled grass, and in the background, there are cliffs and a few hills covered with vegetation. A dark strip of clouds lies over the ocean, creating an unreal atmosphere. The land is illuminated by the sun, but the highest mountains disappear into the band of clouds.

A typical road in the mountains of the island in July/August. The hydrangeas serve as a pasture fence and erosion control. The inflorescences usually reach basketball size.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The picture shows a paved road lined on both sides by flowering hydrangea shrubs that are about three metres high. The dirt on the road suggests dairy farming. The cows are milked directly in the pasture or led to a milking machine located in a nearby pasture.

The picture shows a round table in a well-maintained leisure park. The table consists of an old millstone with a base made of volcanic rock. Around it are three simple benches arranged in a U-shape, also made of natural volcanic rock. The stone is heavily covered with moss and lichen.
The ground consists of red volcanic gravel and some well-kept lawns. In the background are trimmed hydrangeas, which have already sprouted some new leaves, and irises.

The viewer looks out onto an overgrown plot of land below a road, where you can see the remains of a tin roof, a dilapidated shed, tall grass, undergrowth and trees in the background. A large part of the area and some of the trees are covered with purple flowers of Ipomoea purpurea (common morning glory), which is unfortunately widespread on São Miguel.

A closer look at the lighthouse of the Ponta do Arnel, Nordeste.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The picture shows a picturesque white lighthouse with a red roof standing on a small promontory on a high cliff. It was first put into operation in 1876. Below is a tiny fishing harbour. Next to the steep road leading down from the lighthouse are a few small houses. Several open fishing boats lie dry on the pier. Bushes and trees are visible in the upper left corner. To the right is the deep blue ocean, where a boat can be seen leaving the harbour and heading out to sea.

The Cows Who Stare at Men
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The viewer stands about three to four metres below a grass-covered embankment. At the top, several Holstein dairy cows can be seen standing at various distances to the side of the viewer. Almost all of them are staring directly into the camera. The sky above is blue, with a few white clouds.

Always an abundant place to see a good »splash«: Capelas
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The viewer stands here about 20-25 metres above sea level on a volcanic cliff that shows no signs of erosion and is covered with grass at the top. You look out over the dark blue-grey ocean beneath an overcast sky. In the centre of the picture, water from a wave crashing onto the cliffs sprays upwards in several fountains.

The picture shows a picturesque waterfall cascading from the left into a small enclosed pool. On the right is a wide footpath made of red volcanic gravel. In the background is a steep slope covered with freshly mown grass, on which tree ferns, azalea bushes, hydrangeas and other decorative plants grow. At the top, the fronds of a palm tree protrude into the picture.

On the hiking trail "Rotas da Água - Janela do Inferno" (water routes - hell's window) that partly follows the water supply pipes from Lagoa do Fogo (fire lake) to the southern towns.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The picture shows two water pipes, approximately 30 cm thick, running parallel to each other on a brick embankment and rising at the end. There is space for a narrow path between the pipes. To the right of the path, you can see a handrail, indicating that this is indeed part of the hiking trail. At the end of the handrail, you can see a staircase leading down to the left of the embankment and, further back, a staircase to the left of the water supply structure, which is leading up. The whole thing is located in a forest. You can see tree trunks (Japanese cedar and sweet pittosporum) and ginger lilies. Everything is covered in moss.

Upcoming clouds at Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake). The lake is shrouded in clouds most of the time, which resemble smoke. Hence the name.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The image shows a breathtaking, irregularly shaped mountain lake, which reveals its volcanic origin only at second glance. The blue-turquoise colour of the lake and the surrounding mountains, completely covered with vegetation, are illuminated by the sun. However, a white wall of clouds is approaching from the right, already covering the right bank.

The hot water ocean pool in Ferraria, seen from above. Always crowded. Bathtub temperatures (and lots of people) during low tide.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The viewer looks down almost vertically onto a wildly rugged headland consisting of sharp-edged volcanic rock. At the very bottom, you can see a narrow bay with ropes stretched across it, to which many bathers are clinging. Water at a temperature of approx. 70°C flows into the bay from the right, while the left side is open to the ocean. In the area where most people are, temperatures range between 30° and 39°C. Of course, this is only at low tide. To the left and right in the foreground is typical coastal vegetation, such as tree heath. The ocean is turquoise to dark blue.

The viewer looks into a small cave in an embankment composed of natural stone. Everything is completely covered with moss and ferns. Not a single piece of bare rock is visible.

The islet of Rosto do Cão (dog's face).
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The viewer looks out over the blue ocean towards the horizon, where the closed cloud cover ends and a patch of blue sky appears.
On the right of the picture, a narrow island rises gently out of the water, reminiscent of a dog sitting with its hindquarters in the water and standing on its front paws, looking out towards the horizon. Well, actually, it reminds me more of an armadillo. The island is somewhat rugged and covered with grass. You can also see some birds flying near the ‘head’ of the rock in the picture.

Another picture of Lombadas valley. One of my favourite places on this planet (I already mentioned that, right? 😂)
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The viewer looks across a rather broad plain into a narrow valley. In the foreground on the right are the fronds of pampas grass. On the plain are ferns, some of which have turned brown (this is not due to a lack of water – ferns do this when they produce spores). The narrow valley reveals zigzag mountain peaks, indicating its volcanic origin. The steep slopes are all covered with mosses, ferns, grasses and shrubs. White clouds and a bit of blue sky.

The abandoned fishing port of Santa Íria (Ponta de Cintrão, Ribeirinha), still equipped with an old rusty winch.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The picture shows a narrow, steeply ascending paved road that winds its way between steep, high cliffs. The cliffs are made of sedimentary rock, with clearly visible layers. The tops of the cliffs are covered with grasses, tree heath and the ubiquitous giant reed. In the foreground, you can see the remains of the brick harbour, a natural stone wall, dilapidated tool sheds and a large, completely rusted winch that was once used to pull boats up.
A tender is currently being held for the renovation of the harbour, as it is no longer accessible for safety reasons. The photo is several years old.

A small stream of carbonated water with high mineral content in the Lombadas valley causes strange colouring of aquatic plants. The stream originates directly from the source that was once bottled.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The viewer sees a section of a very narrow stream of clear water in its bed lined with stones. Grasses and ferns surround it. Algae and other aquatic plants grow in the stream bed, coloured in unnatural shades of green due to the high mineral and CO2 content.

A cloudy late afternoon at the lookout Santa Íria. Right after summer holidays, a million belladonna-lillies start to bloom all over the island. The locals call them "Girls go to school". See ALT
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The viewer looks down from an elevated viewpoint onto approximately 30 kilometres of São Miguel's north-eastern cliffs, which are relatively flat on the upper side and rise to the right. To the left is the ocean. The coast has many promontories and peninsulas and is covered with pastures, forests and villages on the top. In the background are the highest mountains of the island, their peaks disappearing into dark clouds. The entire image is relatively dark, as it was taken in the late afternoon under heavy cloud cover. In the foreground is a row of pink Amaryllis belladonna flowers. These are lilies that can be found all over the island and all start to bloom within the same week. Depending on temperatures, this starts between mid-September and early October. Usually around the time of the tapping of the first keg at the Oktoberfest in Munich (coincidence? just kidding!). They only bloom for about two weeks. In winter, the plant develops long, narrow leaves that die off in May/June. The bulb then rests ‘invisible’ in the ground until, in early autumn, the stem with the flower suddenly appears quickly, within 2-3 days. This is always a bad sign for the pupils, because the flowers indicate that they have to return to school after 12 weeks of holidays..

Three tree trunks (Pittosporum undulatum) with a strong will to survive. The middle one looks a bit like a goblin doing a headstand.
#Açores #Azores #Azoren #SãoMiguel #photography #landscape #landscapephotography
The picture shows three tree stumps of sweet Pittosporum, each about 1.5 metres high, standing next to each other, with lots of new branches and leaves sprouting from the top. In the background is a green wilderness of grasses, bushes, shrubs and trees.
