there are no goddamn sweets in the house despite the vice president of little treats going to the grocery store today (it’s me, i’m her) so i am eating a lemon icelandic yogurt with a bunch of honey added. i have almost fooled myself.

that seems very odd to me! i also have a twsbi eco and love it. i suspect the ink is your culprit, but i’m not sure why it would be (unless it clogs them, i suppose). what kind of ink are you using?

ms word spellcheck is doing fine, whyever do you ask?

a screenshot of my document where i’ve written “viva las cegas” (and obvious typo for vegas) and word suggests either viva las degas or viva las cages.

a screenshot of the same document. i’ve manually corrected the typo to vegas, but because it isn’t capitalized word still thinks it’s wrong. this time the suggestions are viva las vedas and viva las venas.

in the last week and a half i have stumbled into two separate collaborative creative projects and i can’t remember the last time my brain was so happy. (now if my mood would like to cooperate, that would be very nice!)

damn this chapter is resonating. (“the box” refers to her filing system, which uses a literal box to collect inspiration and research for each project.)

Sadly, some people never get beyond the box stage in their creative life. We all know people who have announced that they've started work on a project-say, a book—but some time passes, and when you politely ask how it's going, they tell you that they're still researching. Weeks, months, years pass and they produce nothing. They have tons of research but it's never enough to nudge them toward the actual process of writing the book. I'm not sure what's going on here. Maybe they're researching in the wrong places. Maybe they like the comfort zone of research as opposed to the hard work of writing. Maybe they're just taking procrastination to a new extreme. All I know for sure is that they are trapped in the box.
My solution for them: This isn't working. Free yourself. Get out of this box.
Put it away for another day and start a new box. But do so with the faith that nothing is lost, that you haven't put in all this effort for naught. Everything you've done is in the box. You can always come back to it.

i’m back to reading twyla tharp’s book the creative habit. she’s talking about her filing system for ideas and quotes a friend who said: “when you’re up to your ass in alligators, it’s easy to forget that your objective was to drain the swamp.” feels topical.
