Well, the rabbit's out of the PM bag! I have a lot of thoughts on what it means at last to be fulfilling the dream I've nurtured since I was 7 years old, but for right now I'm afraid all I have for you is the mental image of me flapping in a circle while I shout, I'M GOING TO BE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR!!

We need to shut down the word "performative" until we can figure out what the hell is going on. Of course adopting symbols of protest and resistance is performative! Performance is a core strategy for mass movements!! That's why the call them demonstrations!!!
"In response to criticisms she's heard about the hat being 'performative,' Mashaal, the shop owner, said the thousands of dollars that have gone toward supporting their community speaks for itself."

Hundreds of students at local high schools walked out two days ago in protest of ICE, and I am so proud of them and also so INFURIATED at the adults posting on Nextdoor that the students "have no idea what they're protesting and just want an excuse to get out of school."

F1 dragons, y'all.
It is my utter pleasure to present the cover for my forthcoming sports romantasy novel, FIRE POWER, thanks to the incredible design and illustration talents of Alice Clark and Vic Cavalieri. Get ready for dragons, villains, passion, and danger. Ride or die, baby!

The snowdrops in our garden have all started blooming in the past week or two. Perhaps I'll bring a bouquet inside.
🤍🌱🤍Snowdrops symbolise hope and the promise of Spring. In Herefordshire, bunches would be brought indoors at Candlemas to purify and protect the household - but bringing in a single bloom was said to be unlucky, or even a portent of death.

Yes. It's clear that MAGA's framing of empathy as "toxic" has led to this moment.

It's why the Twin Cities' resistance has been breaking them so badly. Their stereotypes about "Minnesota nice" made them miscalculate.

Community is strength, not weakness. Empathy is greater than hate and cruelty.
The guy genuinely gave a shit.

And the empathy vampires murdered him for it.
CNN reporting that a week before Alex Pretti was killed, 5 agents tackled him and he suffered a broken rib. CNN says he stopped his car after he saw ICE agents interacting with a family on foot and began to blow his whistle. Source tells CNN Pretti believed “That day he thought he was going to die”

This part. Celebrate every victory, large and small. Celebrate each other. Celebrate the love and solidarity that hold you together. Never stop doing this. It's fundamental.
I don't keep doomers in my feed but since apparently some folks do: "celebrate each and every win, loudly" is Organizing 101

Some thoughts:

1. The deadline for nominating a person or group for the Nobel Peace Prize is Feb. 1.

2. History professors are qualified nominators.

3. The people of Minnesota have been awe-inspiringly peaceful in the face of state violence.

4. He would be so mad.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

Minneapolis is really laying a blueprint here that is telling a powerful story in organized, community resistance. Pay attention.
The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:

- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE

By absolute coincidence, I started The House that No One Saw last night and am loving it! Beautiful and poetic and weird---the kind of book that's so hard to get published yet children need so many more of! A book that doesn't talk down to them at all.
The Printz Honor books are: ‘Cope Field’ by T.L. Simpson; ‘The House That No One Saw’ by Adina King; ‘Sisters in the Wind’ by Angeline Boulley; and ‘Song of a Blackbird’ by Maria Van Lieshout #ALAyma

I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.
