For people in South Minneapolis, who are being heavily targeted by ICE, Midtown Global Market is remaining open today (individual businesses may be closed) and offering their space for people who need a place to get out of the cold. They are offering free coffee and hot cocoa while supplies last.

ICE says it arrested 10,000 "criminal illegal aliens" in MN but it has only released 240 names of immigrants arrested as of Jan. 19. Of those 240, 80% have felony convictions. Nearly all had served their time and were not actively wanted when they were detained, according to a Star Tribune analysis.
ICE says it has arrested 10,000 ‘criminal illegal aliens’ in Minnesota, but offers little proof
If accurate, that total would represent a substantial share of the state’s undocumented immigrants.

The NYT finally covered the fact that >1000 local businesses closed to oppose ICE occupation, leaving off the number.

They don't mention the fact that they were joined by all of Minnesota's significant arts and cultural institutions.

We will win because our mission is defined by love.

Love of family. Love of friends. Love of neighbors. Love of freedom.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

Schools are closed. Business all over the state are closed. The demands are simple and humane.

Minnesotans are united like never before.

This is an historically unprecedented day of action against our unjust occupation by violent federal forces.

Abolish ICE. Minnesota Forever.
A major coalition is launching a general strike in Minnesota tomorrow, aimed at pushing out ICE.

It includes:

-Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005
-The MN AFL-CIO
-SEIU Local 26
-UNITE HERE Local 17
-CWA Local 7250
-Saint Paul and Minneapolis Federations of Educators
-Faith leaders

And more. 🧵

Just saw someone in an inflatable duck suit doing ICE watch at a daycare.

They can take our civil liberties and undermine public safety, but they can't take our joy.

The DHS explanation for today's Mueller Park gas attack is that someone spit on an agent at the gas station. The park is blocks away from the gas station. And somehow the most photographed people in the city have no visual evidence of the instigation.

Terrorizing our kids is not going to make our communities safer. ICE needs to end this surge in Minnesota – and I refuse to vote to send more funding to DHS and ICE when they continue to trample on the rights of Minnesotans and make our communities less safe.
