Havin’ flashbacks

I like how this whole thing was supposed to be a media stunt to show everyone how united they are behind the Great Man and the visual they produced looks like a Brezhnev-era politburo meeting where the agronomist with access to the real numbers just told them about the wheat forecast.

I always assigned that in my senior seminars and I’d like to think at least one (1) student both read it and has since had an epiphany moment where it became clear why I asked them to read it

The artificial intelligence and robotics being developed by multi-billionaires will allow corporate America to wipe out tens of millions of decent-paying jobs, cut labor costs and boost profits.

What happens to working class people who can’t find jobs because they don’t exist?

It’s not even antisocial behaviour per se; it’s a collapse in the basic ability and willingness to recognise that other people exist

Airports make this same point for me, with a similar pre/post-pandemic dropoff in basic human decency and awareness of the existence of others.

Watching antisocial driver behavior in the school drop-off line makes it really clear that the pandemic destroyed whatever few shreds remained of the social compact, just pathological selfishness on display every day

Great, X’s and O’s coach, one of the best who ever did it, who knows absolutely nothing about modern college football recruiting and is also 74 and got lured out of retirement by a dollar amount he couldn’t refuse.

Per sources: Bill Belichick has discussed buyout options with North Carolina’s hierarchy. Belichick has signaled a willingness to trigger his own $1 million buyout if he can find a soft landing with another team or in media

I think this is a perfect example of your argument that they're weak and flailing. If they thought their plan was working they wouldn't be reaching at ridiculously desperate shit like this, which sounds like it came from the comment section of a 2002-era Tax Protester blog.

Remember when the head of the cop union in Chicago promised "800-1000" cops would quit if Brandon Johnson won and it was actually six, all of whom were "quitting" by taking a lucrative early retirement.

The essence of Bari Weiss: not reporting, but crude partisan propaganda presented in the form of reporting—and usually pronounced from the mouths of anonymous sources which likely don't exist. Expect this sort of prolefeed at CBS News soon.

Met my wife (indirectly, not on an app), made friends, got an agent who got a book published for me, and escaped a career I hated and was doing badly at.

But other than that, nothing.

Liberals tend to hate Vibes Politics but it's absolutely going to be Vibes Politics, "Does this person get it or do they not get it"

It's not going to matter much in the coming years if a Democrat supports Policy X over Policy Y; the divide will be between people who understand how American politics have changed and people who think we're one good congressional softball game away from being friends and governing buddies again.
edburmila.bsky.social
The key divide in the Democratic Party during Trump II is between people who want to turn the clock back to 2014 and people who recognize a clean break with the past when they see one. "Let's get back to the way things were" isn't a viable vision for the future and some people have no other.

The worst legacy of the Obama-era internet (Tumblr, early Facebook, etc) is the idea that nobody should be shamed.
