Truly honored to be invited to work on Foreign Policy for America’s (FP4A) bipartisan Congressional score card. The scorecard gets released at the end of the 119th Congress.

With SNAP being cut for November, grocery stores will take such a huge hit that projections are we'll see a 1% increase in food costs just from that.

The administration is not doing anything good for the economy. Middle and low income will be curtailing spending out of necessity.

People need to be prepared for a general strike in order to sustain it indefinitely. A limited time general strike might have some benefits like the one proposed for Black friday. However, if people just go back to buying as usual after a few days I don't think it will force change.
Not the whiskey meme. 😩😂
Great question Deedee. The easiest definition is full on strike across multiple sectors. People are calling for folks everywhere to organize and not work. As a former union actor, my career ended due to a strike in the early 2000s. It’s a serious action that requires lots & lots of strategizing.
I am not clear what is meant by the term general strike in US.
Is it buy nothing? Is it not going to work? People without unions easily lose their jobs if they don’t show up. Gig workers strike against themselves. Labor has few protections compared to Europe. More specifics would help organize.

My sense is that first we need a few more massive nationwide and worldwide protests to cement solidarity. Then the courage to strike will be more readily adopted and implemented.

I just came across this post a few minutes ago. The no travel part will be impossible as most people already have Thanksgiving plans, but a strike for this amount of time would still hurt a lot. Especially on Black Friday. Money has a loud voice.

Hearing about one for Thanksgiving week, which seems badly timed, imo, as many people are travelling at that time and aren't gonna change their plans a month before the holiday. And I'm hearing about one in January, which people are complaining is too long to wait, but better chance to plan it, imo.
I’m seeing more calls for a general strike. How do other folks feel? Is it the only option left to the people?
General strike.
People are afraid to do it.
But it is the only option left.
Turn off the $, and this shit will end now
Marching is a first step. It’s been done. Time to take it up and actually do something

And know you're not alone whenever you are up at night worrying about those things, I've barely been sleeping lately, and these thoughts are definitely part of why my nervous system is shot. Sending you hugs across the pond🫂 /4

It is all to overwhelm, it is hard to keep sorting good, vs evil things but it is like bailing out a boat. We all have to keep doing it or we are sunk. The hard part is to remember to do it without victims or violence.

The nuclear option is a general strike. Shut.It. All. Down.

I feel a need to focus on food banks in my community. It’s important to focus on something that will help your neighborhoods and communities. People will struggle.
Up thinking about #NoKings which was 7 million strong. I’m also thinking about the destruction of the East wing at the WH & the fact that Americans dependent on SNAP will suffer under this Admin’s cruelty. What else should we be doing bc the pain, destruction & election rigging are ongoing?
