can't tell if my inability to feel impressed at anything another person does is a kind of ignoble contrarian impulse, a valuable and accurate sense of perspective, or a symptom of major depression

if having friends made you less healthy would they recommend you not have them? every good friend takes five years off your life. move to the woods, say doctors

seems like kind of an insane perspective to be like "don't forget about the instrumental value of human connection to you personally! friends are simply a means to your own well-being"
nytimes.com
Social relationships contribute to health and longevity in a few critical ways. But experts say it's less about the sheer number of connections you have, and more about what those connections do for you.

You don’t have to be the life of every party to reap the health benefits.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know much about the town itself. I spend my time outdoors, walking the ridges and valleys.

don't hear much about qanon anymore these days, though I guess they were right about a storm coming. more vindicated than a lot of people attempting to predict the future, really

alternatively, and I guess more likely, it's just an audacious scam where they pretend to replace people with a miraculous technology but instead the stuff those people did stops happening

so the current AI culture complex is essentially a cult that has misunderstood LLMs as meaningfully generally intelligent and taken over large portions of corporate governance, right. that seems... bad

sure, I guess. nor are most people doing the kind of labor blue jeans were designed for

speculating, but I think this is downstream of twitter and tumblr both sort of diminishing and taking the sense of internet monoculture with them

in general I think stan culture has kind of had its heyday, I don't feel like I see the kind of grandiose threats and pile-ons from swifties or kpop people pretty much ever anymore

I think this is a little bit awkwardly constructed but I don't see the use of passive voice here as especially exculpatory or anything, nor is "landed on the ground" from the clause in the sentence utilizing passive voice

quite enjoying watching the mods and the people who don't like the mods having a days long ineffectual slap fight, this is very cozy to me as a person who has wasted their life on forums

Harassing the mods into banning someone has never worked. And harassing people in general has never changed their mind.

aren't "the divisions cannot be overcome" and "the political system is too divided to solve problems" pretty different statements?
nytimes.com
Americans have less faith in the ability of the country’s political system to solve problems than they had five years ago, with a large majority now believing that the U.S. is incapable of overcoming its deep divisions, according to a poll by The New York Times and Siena University. nyti.ms/476StrS
A line graph titled "Most Americans Think the Country's Divisions Cannot Be Overcome, Poll Says." It shows 64% of respondents saying that America's political system is too politically divided to solve the nation's problems, and 33% saying the system can still address the nation's problems.

The bullfrog in a tweed suit whose land I live on, came by to tell me they were busy planting this year's carrots. He proudly told me he still employs two gardeners, as his father did, though "only one maid." He then observed the rising spring sun and said "it's all diminishing."

People obviously do get mauled by mountain lions sometimes, but I think the correct position on that is who cares. it's got more right to be there than you whether it benefits you or not
washingtonpost.com
Column: For all the mythology, mountain lions pose almost no threat to humans.

They actually offer enormous benefits to humans, and restoring these big cats to their historical range could help the environment and us.
Column | I got nose-to-nose with a mountain lion. It was scary — and magical.
Mountain lions in your neighborhood could be just what you need. How restoring these big cats to their historical range could help the environment and us.
