yeah i'm with you, good guac is the almighty overlord of foods that you use other foods to put in your mouth.
Salsa & cheese have their place, but the avocado-based dip is just better.

He did it again for the 5 year anniversary

oh bullshit.
him accepting a spot in the trump 2 admin told us all we needed to know: he is totally spineless, and will do anything he's told to do.
trump completely broke that man over the last decade, he was never going to be anything but a rubber stamp.
anybody who voted for him should be ashamed
ofpope.bsky.social
Honestly if he puts up a good race, loses, then he's got 6 years to run for US rep or state office, and prove he is what he says he is.
US Senator is a pretty high office to expect anybody to waltz into as a first-timer!
No shame losing to a veteran pol, it isn't a job that just anybody can do!

eh, i wouldn't have predicted the specifics, but I 100% knew that rubio would be a spineless tool for trump.

it's on me for not expecting trump to destroy USAID, scientific research, and the state dept I guess, but no I definitely didn't expect fucking rubio to stand against him in the slightest.
ofpope.bsky.social
what heel turn? he's been steadily downhill since trump humiliated him a decade ago.
signing on with this admin meant nothing less than total submission.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Protein Powders and Shakes Contain High Levels of Lead - Consumer Reports

akshually- both of you are hilariously wrong

this isn't even edgy, it's just dumb.

Even if I knew who any of these people are, I would never guess the context.
Good lord.

You will absolutely never guess what the context is for this rather ominous passage

It does *mostly* follow the book, but also you could read the book first and not spoil the movie.
The changes are THAT important & powerful.

This was the one that really made the point for me.
Saw the movie first, then searched out the book and...no.
Not bad, exactly, and I liked the backstory that can fit in a book, but...goddamn, that movie is SO GOOD.
ofpope.bsky.social
this one is ACTUALLY unhinged.
congrats(?)

The newsroom doesn't have to like trump.
they don't pick the stories that are published, or write the headlines.
The billionaire trump fan who owns the paper makes those choices directly or not.

California is pretty great, so I cling to the smug superiority I got from walking around sweating in a t-shirt while san franciscans were wearing puffy coats & winter hats in March.
ofpope.bsky.social
1) they don't understand "the greater good"
2) or "doing something for other people"
3) they pay their own crowds to show up and pretend to like trump, so obviously everyone else does too
4) they really, *really*, don't understand point 2

I'm hesitant to give him credit for the thing that literally any politician with a pulse would have done: shovel mountains of $ at the people who make vaccines.
Honestly he lucked into being pres when mRNA vaccines came into their own, and this became an option!

Is there ANY way to arrange for this to happen to brett kavanaugh?

The sanderson books are...fine. Maybe i'm just not a fan (haven't read him otherwise), but they're distinctly different.
Worth it tho, he does do a good job!
The Slog isn't so bad since it's complete, but the early 2000s were rough, when you'd wait years for the next book and it was Path of Daggers.

Today I was thinking about small kindnesses, simple inexpensive things that brighten a day, and I thought about how the receptionist at my school saved me from humiliation in front of the Headmaster on account of having left my belt in a vase.
