I like cats, animation, and psychology. Currently hyper fixated on Hirofumi Yoshida from Chainsaw Man.

Exactly! It's written like a blatant set up, a lot of things in part 2 are and I'm still anticipating a pay off to that.

Weirdly my knee jerk reaction to this was an intense desire to defend Kikuchiyo's honor, which I think speaks to the power of how emotionally impactful The Seven Samurai was as a film. He just worked so hard and fought so passionately, he shouldn't have needed that scroll the system was unfair.

Barem burning the body is what makes me think it's an intentional detail that indicates this is part of a larger plan. It's such a blatant "hide the evidence" move. Barem shows up to antagonize Denji, but instead of attacking him he burns the body of his friend then just stands there.

Amazing film, I have a cell from it on my wall. So excited to finally see it in theaters.

It basically functions like an optical illusion: my brain sees the back of the chair Yoshida is phasing through as part of the wall which makes it look like he's sitting on a stool. If I stop and think about it I realize that's not correct, but as I'm reading through it it feels correct.

I didn't notice it until people pointed it out, it's the kind of thing your brain can autocorrect if you know what you're "supposed" to be looking at.

The chair phasing is a pretty obvious layering mistake that I think should be forgiven, I've done enough work in Photoshop work over the years to be sympathetic towards that kind of thing. The lack of clothing damage though is extremely suspicious and either a clue or a major oversight.

I'm convinced these scenes in the Iris Out music video are references to future events with Yoshida and Asa in part 2.
omoly.bsky.social
I mean they definitely referenced Yoshida with the cafe date, and Asa with the aquarium date. Part 2 foreshadowing begins!

Exactly, to be clear I meant what I said unironically: Heracles and Prometheus literally have a rescue romance situation going on, I too would feel endurance towards the dude who showed up and freed me from my torture rock.

Prometheus and Heracles do have a pretty good meet cute story "Oh he stopped me from having my liver eaten every day! Ha ha!"

COMPOSURE - Could he be... a member of the *homo-sexual underground*?

ELECTROCHEMISTRY - This *sexual* thing seems interesting... Ask around, become involved.

Yeah but like Yoshida has never told Denji he's gay, Denji just automatically assumes "This dude is gay and as a gay man he must want to have sex with me", I mean I personally think he's correct about Yoshida being gay, but still.

You know in retrospect it's kind of weird Denji just assumed Yoshida would be into this. Dude just brought it up with no prompting out of nowhere.

The sequels are so good though (well, the first two sequels and the prequel are good. The final movie not so much) they find a lot more interesting things to do with the premise especially in the prequel. They have the same kind of energy Escape from New York does.
