The original Keep on the Borderlands was very much a sandbox: there's no overarching plot, just various encounters. More of a feature than a bug, IMO.

Whether the components make up for this lack for new DMs is good question, however.

Absolutely! He was just a punk kid in '77, so everyone worked around him. In '99, he's "THE" George Lucas, and no one wants to cross him.

TBF, the technical leaps that Lucasfilm made wouldn't be possible w/o him, but he's a bad director for actors.

It isn't "free". Certainly, you don't have to pay cash, but you do have to surrender your email, your privacy. What will they do with it? Who knows? If they were all that concerned about ethics, why not release it as open and transparent content, as DriveThru has done.

I know nothing about 9th Level Games's content, but this sours me on them. All they had to do was remove one sentence, and instead they decided to play the victim. And Rascal News helped them. This is yellow journalism at its worst.
