That was such a smart play by Pettersson. Dropped the puck to Boeser, then drew the defenceman out of the shooting lane, giving Boeser all the room he needed to pick the top corner. #Canucks

That's a weird way to score a goal. Filip Chytil hit Kevin Bahl in the head with his first shot, then as everyone was distracted by Bahl collapsing to the ice, Chytil scored into the open net. #Canucks

It also gets downgraded to a two-minute minor after review, but probably should have stayed as a major.

If Cootes keeps getting more days, it will be the start of the regular season, and the 18-year-old centre will have made the team.

When Trevor Linden was an 18-year-old kid in his rookie season, veteran Harold Snepsts said, “Usually with a rookie, you’re waiting for some sign of maturity; with Trev, you wait and wait for him to show some sign that he’s still only a kid.”

While Cootes isn’t Linden, by any means, he certainly makes it easy to forget that he doesn’t turn 19 until next year. He plays a mature two-way game with an attention to detail defensively that would put some veteran NHLers to shame.
