Thinking more and more about how much certain actors are pushing us towards a post-truth, post-data world, a world driven purely by narratives and vibes

It's not good.

Minister and Burnham escalate row with ‘hypocritical’ Ratcliffe over claim UK colonised by immigrants – politics live
Labour mayor of Greater Manchester joins those criticising Ratcliffe over his comments The GMB union has alos criticised Jim Ratcliffe over his comments about immigration. The union represents workers employed by Ineos, the chemicals company set up and run by Ratcliffe. Andy Prendergast, the GMB’s national secretary, said: Anyone who watches football knows the beautiful game is a shining example multiculturalism; people from across the world playing in harmony. In light of this, Radcliffe’s crass and insensitive comments just underline how out of touch and offensive he truly is. His reign at Man Utd has been marked by mass dismissals of loyal staff and chaos on the pitch. Frankly, his right to comment on UK affairs should have ended the moment he sloped off to Monaco to avoid paying his taxes. These comments go against everything for which Manchester has traditionally stood: a place where people of all races, faiths and none have pulled together over centuries to build our city and our institutions, including Manchester United FC. Calling for curbs on levels of immigration is one thing; portraying those who come here as a hostile invading force is quite another. Continue reading...

The rush to scream trans yesterday from would-be pretend journalists - and some at purportedly reputable outlets - was so disgusting.
From morning after Canada’s second deadliest school shooting on record. Almost as if reputable outlets take time to verify facts, or – just maybe – gender identity isn’t the most pressing issue when six children and two adults have been murdered.

The US has been better than Canada this Olympic cycle, and they’re just getting started.

All of last night’s goal-scorers would be the youngest player on Team Canada.

This is my great great aunt, an early legend of Tumbler Ridge. In a family history book she moved to Dawson Creek to be a “lady,” “but those who wee close to her knew better.” It also reads “she fabricated her age so often I sometimes wonder if she knew herself.”

First met Jim in December 2018, he’d come to watch a game from the press box. Sat next to me the whole night. That was a thrill on its own.

Then at the end he said he was ‘really enjoying your column.’ I was truly speechless.

I’d call him up now and again, just to check in. He’ll be missed .

Immensely sad to hear Jim Robson has died.

He was truly the voice of my youth. Many talk about ‘Greg Adams! Greg Adams!’ but I watched that game on TV so my memory of his was calling the Canucks’ OT win in ‘91 pushed them into the playoffs.

And as a writer he was always so kind and supportive.
