The Posse Comitatus Act began as a reactionary move against Reconstruction, blocking the Army from protecting newly freed citizens.

Now, in a bitter twist, it’s one of the few guardrails left to defend democracy. Our new episode is up.

Mike Mattler is truly the expert I'd want to hear from most on Trump's EO that appears to extend US security guarantees to #Qatar - former lead Executive branch treaty lawyer, former counsel at SFRC.

Read his analysis of the key Qs and how to think about them:

Some Questions About Trump’s Order Pledging to Defend Qatar’s Security
Trump's EO on Qatar raises a number of important legal and policy questions that merit careful consideration by Congress and the public.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Census Bureau. The CDC. The FDA. Now NOAA. There's seemingly no source of government data that Trump doesn't want to be able to corrupt.

Hey cool the NOAA guy who was found to have violated the agency's code of ethics for his role in Sharpiegate has been confirmed as the head of NOAA.

Secretary Rubio has this wrong.

The US is not currently engaged in hostilities with Houthis or Iranian proxies, so there's no termination required.

And the resolution specifically states it does NOT prevent the US "from defending itself from an armed attack or threat of an imminent armed attack"

Transnational violent extremism poses a national security threat to Western countries. How those nations deal with the threat varies based on their legal authorities.

Thomas E. Brzozowski writes that all would benefit if countries coordinated their response.

If the U.S. and foreign partners could strategically deploy their counterterrorism programs to target a common enemy, all would benefit.

Here’s Trump calling for the jailing of the mayor of Chicago and the governor of Illinois.

Totally normal. Just an ordinary day in the Trump regime.

This guy is such a dumb dipshit. How do you have “plenary authority” when you are using authority under power delegated by a statute (which you just cited) that contains specific conditions and limitations?? I am guessing he realized how idiotic he sounded the minute it came out of his mouth

Miller oopsie doodled and said the quiet part out loud, talking about DT aka himself having “plenary authority”:

A plenary power or plenary authority is a complete and absolute power to take action on a particular issue, with no limitations

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

Look at how this MAGA propagandist, Benny Johnson, spins this scene: “army of Antifa.”

It’s a small group of people and a guy in chicken suit.

And she’s standing on that roof because…checks video…there are about 10 people and a guy in a chicken suit down below.

Donald Trump has delivered the two most dangerous speeches by a president in our nation’s history:

1. Jan. 6, 2021: Inciting a mob to target his own VP in an attempt to overturn a democratic election.

2. Sept. 30, 2025: Declaring war against American cities in a speech before military leaders.
tomjoscelyn.bsky.social
How many Americans realize Trump declared war on Democrat-run cities in front of military leaders today?

“That’s a war too. It’s a war from within,” Trump said, after claiming “we’re going to straighten them out one by one” - in reference to four major American cities.

Dangerous & disgraceful.
