It has been upsetting watching the establishment hurl itself at Mamdani but I think the other way to read that is that there really is a *better* politics possible and he shows that it is REAL.

We could have this.

In 1948, TV was ruled by fear of sponsors, censors, anger. Ed Sullivan refused to bend. He booked Nat King Cole. CBS panicked, sponsors threatened to pull ads. Ed’s reply: “...they can go to hell.”
Letters that followed were hateful, slurs, rage, and threats. Ed read every one.
He booked Nat again.
