I don't know what you mean, comparing this with Trump. (I didn't underestimate the danger if he was re-elected.)
Press Club has its logistical logic, including not too many ppl in a row saying similar things. Withdrawing an invite (as opposed to not inviting) is not a good look though.

Imagine no redistributions from now to next fed election, then a uniform 5.2% primary vote swing from ALP to L/NP (& all other votes remain the same)
So national 2pp is 50-50
On pendulum: L/NP gains 14 seats from ALP
Also, on crossbench:
Grn take Griffith, Brisbane, Richmond, Macnamara from ALP

We do need citizen %s tho, as non citizen residents, apart from those from Commonwealth countries, can’t vote in UK national elections.

Peter one other factor you didn't mention is the relative proportion of immigrants. I think something like ~30% of Australians were born overseas - compared to ~10% in UK for example. I think that + compulsory voting puts the brakes on widespread nativism.
