Oh there's specific exhausts for them? I thought they just did a really shitty tune in the ECU to make it burn lean and eject loads of unburnt fuel into the exhaust where it ignites.

I know for a fact that those tunes at best don't increase performance and at worst actually damage the engine/exhaust manifold/catalytic converter (If actually present). Some of the ones I hear on weekends between 1-4AM are apocalyptically loud, like engine exploding loud.

Saw a slammed VW Golf GTI with one of those moron tunes that makes it incredibly loud. Dude was deliberately accelerating and then letting off the throttle to make crazy loud banging/popping noises right next to people on the sidewalk. What a fuckin loser.
