This is why "weird" was working and the perpetually defensive "threat to democracy" line of attack fell flat.

People who feel powerful are proactive and hard to discourage. Nobody feels powerful if we let the narrative be "they are winning and are going to kill you."

An EV is a hard sell even at a lower price with higher gasoline fuel costs when your only option is to hope the Meijer parking lot Level 2 charger isn't occupied for two hours a week.

In the Midwest in particular, low-cost EVs are bought by people with less money, who are thus less likely to own property with freedom to install home charging stations, and are reliant on whatever public or private charging infrastructure is available, which is usually not sufficient.

Speaking somewhat anecdotally, charging infrastructure and range anxiety is the massive barrier. Without suburban garages with home charging stations, owners are reliant on municipal charging stations (city only) and commercial fast chargers.
