"Today we are holding a carnival, to which everyone has to bring a partner wearing some form of disguise, so that one man will be dressed up as a bear, another as a savage, and so on and so forth."

Space limits us from sharing all of Dean Ellis' recommendations, but here’s an offering from the Crescent City’s Egg Yolk Jubilee, which fuses New Orleans brass and Pernambuco #frevo, with a dash of Mexican banda thrown in for good measure:

🤔Trying to decide whether "sharp" is or is le mot juste in this context...

Two things can both be true:

I'm sad to learn about the passing of such a talented artist who was also, by all accounts, a great human being, and...

...I'm thrilled to learn there's a French adjective that essentially means "Oscarized" 🎬

A bit of a language barrier (my Bengali is basically non-existent)...

I ended up getting chopped neck meat on the bone -- not ideal, but a good deal: 2.5 lbs for 16 bucks.

It'll take a long time to marinate/cook , but I don't have any pressing plans. Thanks for everybody's advice!

This royal throne of kings, this scepter’d isle,
This smurf of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This smurftress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of Gargamel

Handel was technically an illegal immigrant to England, but not in the modern sense.

His patron in what is now Germany gave him *temporary* permission to go to London, but he did so well he never went back.

If 21st century gammons were around then, they'd shout "Stop The Boats" during WATER MUSIC!

The Red Sox fielded many good teams before '04 - only to fall short in a heartbreaking fashion. And the Celtics *still* have more NBA titles than any other team.

During Pats' dynasty years I'd brag "I loved them when they sucked, and I'll 💖 when they suck again."

It's been tough though lately!

From MASTERS OF WAR, BLOWIN' IN THE WIND, and THE LONESOME DEATH OF HATTIE CARROLL to HURRICANE and beyond, Dylan never fully abandoned his roots as a "protest singer".

But I won't lie -- I did *not* see this becoming the anthem of our epoch!

Incidentally, the driving force behind this plan is that I have a jar of harissa to use up, so I was thinking of going in a quasi-North African direction.

Thinking cinnamon, cumin, shallots, maybe a few currants...

What else? Turmeric???🤔

I've eventually come to the conclusion I just don't care for goat.

Tried it in South Asian, Mexican, and Caribbean restaurants, but I grudgingly realized for me, it's not the preparation -- it's the meat itself.

I've known for a long time that a lot of the "lamb" served in Indian restaurants around NYC is technically mutton but I never even heard of hogget until a couple of months ago! 😆

Thinking of making a kind of lamb stew today.

There are a number of halal butcher shops in my neighborhood, but I never actually bought lamb before and I don't quite know how to go about it. Do I just go in and ask "how much for a pound of chunks?"

OMG!

*I* was a sailor!

I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide
I sailed a schooner 'round the horn to Mexico. I went aloft to furl the mainsail in a blow, yada yada yada...
