A variation on Benjamin Franklin’s 1754 engraving in the Pennsylvania Gazette, published in Philadelphia, in an effort to foster cooperation among the various colonies against the tyrant king of Britain, with the American colonies replaced by the nine universities selected for special collaboration opportunities

One great aspect of iconic inflatable costumes (aside from how they instantly undermine propaganda about war zones) is that it's useless to arrest the person wearing one. Cuffing a frog would make law enforcement look pathetic. And carting one off just guarantees that more will show up the next day.

MIT is the first of the targeted nine universities to say "NO" - they wish to preserve "freedom of expression" and their "independence as an institution"

I just watched CASABLANCA with a 24-year-old guy and gal, and they loved it SO MUCH. I showed it to another couple their age a couple of years ago and got the same reaction. That movie is great across multiple generations. Watching it now made me feel extra resist-y, too. Man, what a picture.

I can’t not believe how hard it is to sleep when you’re watching your country, be dismantled by the dumbest people.

The Trump administration’s deployment of ICE and others in the mass deportation effort has led to more violence and turmoil, and less safety and security for all, including US citizens. But that’s a feature not a bug. The chaos justifies further authoritarian crackdowns. The chaos is the point.

Exciting! A new independent, women-run bookstore (Celia's Bookshop) has opened in Swarthmore. Happy to be at the ribbon-cutting, and to see so many book-loving customers crowding into the beautiful and welcoming space. #Swarthmore

Thanks, anonymous Amazon reviewer, for appreciating what I was striving for in my latest book:
"Outstanding - non fiction but reads like fiction. The history, the slowly unfolding of facts. I loved this book."

Nothing speaks better to how crazy air travel was back in the 1950s and 1960s. Would you like carton of cigarettes to go with your beer, Sir?

Fortunately, history does not work as Hegseth seems to believe. It is never "settled" and the government cannot (at least for now!) impose its interpretation of events on the rest of us--especially an interpretation so at odds with the historical record. 6/

Only an administration intent on committing war crimes in the present and future would stoop to calling Wounded Knee a "battle" rather than what it truly was: a massacre of over 250 Lakotas, mainly women, children, and the elderly. 1/
