The seven-year wait for a dentist: why Linda Colla pulled out her own teeth

In chronic pain, unable to find an NHS practice and priced out of private care, Colla – like millions of Britons – felt she had no choice but to take matters into her own hands

Process evaluations can be independent studies or conducted simultaneously with outcome evaluations such as RCTs. They examine the processes through which an intervention generates outcomes.

We have published 2 important & very different process evaluations in @commdentoralepi.bsky.social 👇

Process evaluations are really important in helping to understand how (oral) health interventions work.

They are particularly useful for interventions that include a number of interacting components operating in different ways & also when interventions address complex problems.

The Government’s own shocking data shows a staggering 97% of new patients who try to get an NHS dental appointment fail to get one

We all need to back the @thebda.bsky.social in its call for urgent action to save NHS dentistry

Very good explainer on the recent IQ / Fluoride study

TLDR =The studies considered were too heterogeneous, or poor quality, and not relevant to how this actually plays in the UK to draw the conclusions reached

The Levy editorial is also good jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Tooth decay is the most common childhood chronic disease. But it doesn't have to be that way. Ensuring access to preventive oral health care like dental check ups, fluoride varnishes, sealants and fluoridated drinking water can kids help grow up cavity-free. #teethmatter
