honestly i think making wwx & the wens struggle more is a totally fine change for an adaptation to make. its just that people apparently have issues with seeing what applies to all forms of canon vs what only applies to one. also i dont think that criticism of his character would apply to the live -

dire straits). wwx cooks something and it sucks so wen qing tells everyone to not eat it. theyve got enough access to wild fruit that one of the wens is able to make several jars of wine. lots of evidence pointing to the wens having at least an ok amount of food, even if its not very good

its fun (/s) when adaptations screw with perceptions of characters. something ive seen a few times now is people saying lwj is a horrible person because he "saw wwx and the wens STARVING TO DEATH and did NOTHING" and its entirely because the live action show apparently chose to portray them -

i think that at least as far as the american education system goes most of my classes were at least Decent. i think science classes were on the higher end. but the english curriculum was just total piss
